I have a wedge in my bed and lots of pillows that I got when I had my WLS but after talking to others, I decided to get a power-lift recliner. We were going to rent one for a month for about $250 but then I found a decent one on Amazon for only $100 more. I don't know whether I will keep it after recovery but it seemed like a good investment. My wife has back problems and I didn't want to be dependent on her ability to get me out of bed or off the couch every time I had to go to the bathroom. I also hope that it will help me to be more mobile and independent when she returns to work. My surgery is this Friday, 5/18, so I'll know more from personal experience soon.

HW: 248+, SW (RNY: 2/28/17): 244, GW (10/17): 125; LW: 115; 45# regain (19-20); CW: 135.6; new goal: 135; Plastics: Ext mastopexy, Ext abdominoplasty-5/18/2018; diagnosed w/ gastroparesis 11/20.
Wishing you the best for your return home! I don't understand how people do major PS outpatient! When I was having consults, I had several surgeons tell me that I could have an LBL+ and go home straight from their recovery room! I have to admit that it was a deal breaker for me.
I will only be in the hospital until about noon the day after surgery, but I really hope that it helps me to be able to get a little more mobile and stable.
I did end up investing in a power-lift recliner that will be my home for a while.

When I talked to PS's most wanted me to be at a stable weight for about 6 months although some said more than a year. The reason is that losing or gaining weight after PS can change the results. You certainly could have preliminary consults with surgeons but I would wait a while and figure out where your body is comfortable.

Thanks for your reply. I will absolutely choose a surgeon who specializes in helping those who have lost massive amounts of weight. I'll have to see how I look once I reach goal, hopefully things won't be too bad, but I know some surgery will be important to have. I'll know more later this year!
I was 57 when I had my LBL. So worth it. I agree with Laura, for the best results go with someone who has extensive experience with people with massive weight loss. I always say the quality and quantity of our skin is not the same.

It's when my angle gets too low and I'm drinking protein shakes the phlegm builds up not much this evening though. Yay
They are full so I'm going home tomorrow morning ready or not! Ready to try the recliner instead of the adjustable bed that takes three people to get me up. Ugh.
I was surprised how much my lungs were affected by the anesthesia. I kept going into coughing fits and feeling like I couldn't breathe. That only lasted for maybe 24 hours though before it was better.

Ugh last two days have been hell. Not sure how anyone goes home after 2 nights. I'm signed up for 5 and will see about staying longer.
I can't get comfortable and find I'm choking on phlegm most of the time and coughing is a ***** Getting up is worse.
I'm eager to be "done" I guess
or maybe it's a little ocd. I'm reading, reading, reading, thank you everyone for the immense amount of great information.
Surgeons will vary on how long they want you to be at goal. Mine said 3-4 months. I was 6 months out when I had surgery.
