Found Out I Am a Dumper By Accident
At 18 months out, I found out I am a dumper by accident...and couldn't be happier!
I have been diligent in not eating simple carbohydrates because before RNY I was a major sugaraholic.
I knew I could handle up to 20 grams of sugar in combined sources of low fat dairy and fruit.
Today, I wanted to add a little crunch to my 6 ounce Chobani 0% fat blueberry yoghurt (20 grams sugar) so I added 1 cup Kashi Go Lean cereal (6 grams sugar)-total sugar: 26 grams, total protein: 27 grams.
When I was done I felt dizzy, sweaty, stomach cramping, and like I was going to vomit.
I am so happy I am on the Dumpers Bench...LOL because I was afraid I could not count on dumping to keep me on the straight and narrow for the rest of my life due to my past addiction to sugar.

In theory, the dumping itself won't keep you on the straight & narrow - it's still your mind that makes choices and your hand that puts food in your mouth - but it certainly helps drive home the point that simple carbs aren't gonna do you much good and feeling sick isn't worth the momentary yummies.
I dump even on natural sugars (watermelon, applesauce) and really dump on simple carbs. Some were by accident (e.g. a NUT told me to eat mashed potatoes, my body decided it wasn't a good idea; I thought the applesauce was no-sugar-added, etc) but I know I willingly put myself thru the torture of dumping on watermelon.... it just smelled too good!

seems like the one thing that seems to bother me so far (not sure if its dumping or not) is chocolate. Here i searched high and low for sugar free choc. syrup because the chocolate carnation breakfast didnt' seem to be cutting it for me in my milk. Today i finally found some syrup and drank my milk and yuck... like always since surgery i get a tummy ache and feel sick. So i think its the chocolate because the milk doesn't seem to bother me. This isn't a bad thing to have an aversion to. lol
Isn't it weird how our thinking changes post-surgery? Imagine celebrating dumping! The only thing I dump on (so far) is my drug of choice, ice cream. I'm so grateful!
