Protein Bars
I've read on here that some post-ops use the Pure Protein bars from Wal-Mart...my concern is the Malitol used in those...I have avoided anything with sugar alcohols in it (I'm 4 months post-op), has anyone had any problems with sugar alcohols?
How about Special K protein bars? I kind of feel that they just don't have enough protein int hem but too much other processed "stuff"...
Thanks for replies and comments :)

the special k bars have a LOT, LOT of sugar in them for a post op WLS patient I think. I dump though so they are not a option for me
Malitol is bad if eaten in large quantities. I have times where I can eat something with a small amount of malitol and other times it kills my stomach. Be sure to look at the quantities of sugar alcohol in anything you eat.
I always take the sugar alcohol and divide by 2 and was told that that is the amount of sugar in something.

I have had no problems with the Pure Protein bars. I love them!! I usually can only eat half at a time though. Thet are very dense and therefor fill you up. I then eat the other half through~ out the day. They are a saving grace for getting in all my protein! I have cut back on shakes now and am getting most of my protein with food. I went for my 6 week check up and my doc told me to start eating more solids. I had my first crab cake this weekend!!! YUMOO!!! Of course I could only eat half, but it was so YUMMYYYYY!!! Special K do not have much protein, but they do taste very good!
Sugar alcohols do not normally bother me. Not too long ago, I ate a pretty good sized piece of sugar free cake and my stomach felt a little off after that, but not too bad. Sugar alcohols do really make some people miserable though.

Sugar alcohols mess me up more then anything else. So I tend to stay away from things with high numbers.

I was going to say the Quest bars....they are by far the best. So many have sugar alcohols in them and not only do they taste like crap, they make me feel horrible - the pure protein, supreme and oh yeah good grabs are the big offenders.
Power Crunch bars are good (at trader joe's they are like $1.20 or something); they are like the sugar wafer cookies but much tastier than the oh yeah wafer bars, IMO.
The Quest bars are about $2/bar. I can't eat a whole one at one sitting. They also have 20g protein and close to 20g of fiber, depending on the flavor.

Sugar alcohols give me KILLER GAS so I only do pure protein & oh yeah if I'm not going out in public for a while.... I've switched over to Quest and love them - they're quite dense so even if they're $2 a bar, it's still a bargain b/c they end up being 2 servings for me! I also dump on added sugar things so I'd probably never try Special K protein bars but if you're adventurous......
