Guilty about almost 700 calories today

I'm just over three weeks post-op... now eating stage 4, puréed foods. Today I felt so hungry all day and I've eaten about 650 calories today. Is this too much? I literally feel guilty like I had too much to eat today. I guess it's because I've barely been eating 500 calories per day, but I am unsure of the goal caloric intake. Any advice would be appreciated.

No that is not too many. From what I've read on here most people get under 650 for the first 3 months,  but that doesn't mean it is on purpose! My NUT recommends 800 - 1000 and I am 6 weeks out. As long as the calories come from approved sources you should be fine.

Are you following your program?  We didn't count calories, ever.  We counted protein and fluid and stayed on our plan which was 6-8 meals a day (at that point), 1/4c each, 80g of protein.

Are you talking about total calories consumed or only food calories? I had about 900 total calories today that is including 2 protein shakes made with skim milk which is the bulk of my 900 calories.

I was told not to go under 600 cals a day so  you're fine.  Most days I eat about 800 calories which I was told was fine.

If you feel good, have energy, and getting in required liquid and protein then don't worry about it.  I probably did that  about 3 weeks.  Frankly didn't worry about it and still don't.  I even go a bit above 1200 sometimes and I am 7 months.  Yes, I could be losing faster - but I am happy with where I am and ultimately you need to make i work for you!!!

I am 5 weeks out and my calories range between 450 and 680 depending on what I eat that day. I make sure to get my protein in (most days 75 or more).

Actually, though, 680 is a bit more than I should be eating. I follow both my surgeon's recommendation AND Kaiser's rules. The latter says that at 5 to 6 weeks I should still be taking in 400 -600 calories & 60-80g protein. At 3 months it will be upped to 600-800 and from 6 months to a year increased to 800-1000 & 80-100g protein. After one year it goes up to 1000-1200 calories per day & 100-120g protein.
