My post op diet seems much different than everyone else's
I had my RNY on Monday and I got home from the hospital yesterday. I couldn't have anything on Monday and then Tuesday I started on ice then water. On my discharge day I was allowed an ounce of scrambled eggs but I couldn't eat anywhere near that amount. Now that I am home they have me on their stage 3 diet. I am allowed moist protein such as cottage cheese, yogurt, and moistened lean meat. This seems much different than most people immediate post op diet. Don't most people have to do full liquids, puréed food, and then more solid food such as chicken? I really like my dr (dr Adams with bons secour) but I feel like I didn't get a lot of post op diet instruction. Did anyone else have a post op diet similar to mine?
My post Op is pureed foods for 30 days...........This is so there is nothing that will interfere with the stitches in my pouch. If I were you, I would just ensure that everything is soft and moist. AND, we must be our own medical advocate at all times. If you don't think something is right, challenge it.
very different than my diet! I had 1-2 days clear, one week liquid, 1 week puree, 1 week soft, then onto regular soft. It was explained to me that it was for the healing of the stomach.
Call your doc and did you get a nutritionists? They gave me lists of things I can eat and sample menus. Start there so you don't harm yourself. Good luck!

Lots of people go home on the diet you have. I know lots of successful long term vets who didn't do the whole liquid diet for weeks thing.
We really have to take our own journey and not worry too much what other people are doing *unless* we really feel that we are endangering our health by following surgeon instructions (ie Flinstones for life!)

from what i've read, everyone's is so different. i know for example, my puree stage is going to be way longer then most on here, but every doc has their preference.

Everyone gets a slightly different plan. I was liquids only for 2 days. Then pureed for 2 weeks. Then moist solid for the next 30 days and so on. I just started stage 5 and can have most things except for normal sugary and high carb items. I had my first tatse of mashed potatos in over 6 months today. lol I found out that I really don't miss them.
I had my surgery here in the UK and my post op diet was different as well. I think someone above made a great point that every surgeon and nutritionist has a different idea of post op success. I was water and juice for week one, soups, yogurt and apple sauce foods for week two, soft foods on week 3 and then free to slowly re-introduce foods alittle at a time. I am pretty much back to eating regular low fat foods. I can't have fried foods, fatty foods or sugar but everything else goes down well. Makes me nervous that maybe this is going too smoothly so I might be doing it wrong. My surgeon Prof. Lodge says he makes the opening to the pouch alittle wider for faster recovery...let's hope that doesn't come back to bite me! 5 weeks out today and down 26 lbs.

I was on liquids the first 5 days..then full liquids for a few days and then on to pureed foods for about a month...I then went to soft foods and basically to normal foods. I eat everything but i keep my white foods to a minimum (white rice, flour stuff, pasta, white bread), my sugars to a very minimum and fried foods to a minimum. I basically eat protein and vegies and fruits for all my meals.
Good luck and remember, every ones plan is different.
