So I was on the pill prior to my surgery. Went to my PCP yesterday and asked when I could go back on and she said probably never for the pill due to not being able to absorb it correctly. I never even gave that a thought prior to surgery. Any come up against this issue?  If so, what did you do?????

@xtine, how often do you have to get the shot? Do you still have your period or does it stop them all together?

You go every three months for the shot.. About a month after I got my first one I had a 3 week period and nothing since then. I go for my second shot next week.

Do you have any issues with migraines? I do, and have just gone off the pill (required for surgery to be off for 1 month)which I'm nervous about because hormones are a big trigger for my migraines.

Hormones mess with my body very badly, so I can't use the pill, the ring, Mirena, the shot, the implant that they put in your arm, the patch... none of it. I am not interested in the copper IUD (called Paragard) because the small risk of it causing PID and infertility seems HUGE to me since I would be devastated if we couldn't have any more kids.

I got fitted for a diaphragm, but it no longer fits due to my weight loss and condoms have never worked for us. So now DH and I are combining natural family planning, spermicide, and withdraw methods. This whole birth control has been a total headache for me! LOL

That sounds odd to me. I had my surgery on 3/5, had my annual pap on 3/16 and was prescribed the pill again for another year. My GYN was well aware I had surgery and told me to crush my pill and mix it in my food (Im on the pureed stage) I asked him specifically about the absorption issue and he told me that I should not have any issues.
