The RUNS! (Your thoughts)

Why do we run or rather why do you run?   I run because I couldnt't when I was SMO.  While weight loss was a goal, actually running was the primary goal.
Why do you enter races, ok yes a 5K is a race it doesn't matter if you are in it for the finish or you want to set a PR or have a shot at an age group place?  Right now I run 5K's for/with my son.  For every new PR he gets a new game.  He is 12 and games are expensive.  This is his "carrott" to keep him working out.  He is starting to enjoy to the races.
What do you get out of running?  Its a time to my brain to reset.  It relaxes me and also helps burn calories.
Do you enjoy it?  Not always while I am doing it ,but afterwards absolutely.
Where do you run?  Around our neighborhood.  Hate the treadmill, but will do it when I have to.
What is your favorite time to run.    Early morning or late evening.  Anytime its not 90 degrees.

Lots of 5K's, 10K's., 4 1/2 Marathons, 3 Sprint Triathlon done. 2 Olympics and my  First IRONMAN 70.3 September 2013 and First Full Marathon Dec 2013  !!!!!

Why do we run or rather why do you run?
I started run to prove I could do it. Then I continued to run because I knew I could do better.  I also continue to run because it will help me reach goals I have set.  Along with the fact that my running has motivated others around me to run and see what they are capable of.

Why do you enter races, ok yes a 5K is a race it doesn't matter if you are in it for the finish or you want to set a PR or have a shot at an age group place?
Bananas, Tshirts, Bling and free Water!  I also do it as it is my motivation to keep pushing harder or farther.  When I was 5K training it was all about speed but as I increased my race distances it became about the finish.  I am by no means a fast runner but I will finish.  My journey into running and triathlons has shown my kids that if they work hard enough they can obtain their goals.

What do you get out of running?
Calories! LOL.  I get a sense of accomplishment.  I have developed some friend ships through running and people respect me for my dedication and attitude.  But days when I run 13 miles damn if I don't get to enjoy some GRUB!

Do you enjoy it?
UMM HELL NO! on the treadmill.  But out on the trails and walkways around here yes.  There are times in every run I question why I am doing something that tears me down, but when I finish I have a total sense of accomplishment which I really enjoy.

Where do you run.
Treadmill is for speed work.  Walk ways and roads for longer distances and hills.  Anything over 60 on a treadmill and I would have to put a knife in my skull.

What is your favorite time to run.

Butt Crack of Dawn!  for my medium (6-9 miles) and long (10+ miles) I run a walk way called the greenway I usually head out when it is still dark, I being a paved trail I run without lights and enjoy the solitude.  Seeing the sun come up while doing something you never believed was possible is a total feeling.

Why do we run or rather why do you run?
Honestly, it's because I always told myself I never could.  I laughed at the thought of my fat ass running, even though I always had this secret desire to BE a runner.  So just to show myself, I started running.

Why do you enter races, ok yes a 5K is a race it doesn't matter if you are in it for the finish or you want to set a PR or have a shot at an age group place?
I enter them because it shows me I accomplished something.  I can run all kinds of 5k's on the treadmill or in the neighborhood, but pin a bib on me and make me run around a route and it gives it a totally different meaning.  I framed the bib from the very first 5k I ever ran.

What do you get out of running?
Do you enjoy it?
These two I think have the same answer.  I started running because I said I couldn't, and now I do it because I love it.  It gives me an endorphin rush, a high, once I get through that first 10 minutes.  Then I feel powerful, like I can just keep going if I really wanted to.  I walk away feeling strong.

Where do you run
The majority of the time I run on the treadmill at the gym, but now that the weather is nice I can run the trail behind the hospital I work at.  Texas has a short comfortable season... pretty soon it's going to be to darn hot to even stand outside, let alone run!

What is your favorite time to run.
Right after work, right when that blah period is where you know if you sit still for any length of time you will turn in to a zombie.  Running gives me energy to get through the rest of my day.

 Why do you run/walk?
I started walking because it was the easiest exercise.  Then I wanted to be able to run with my husband.  That's never going to happen, I'll never be that fast, and I still don't run, though I can walk/run in intervals.  But we do enjoy going on long walks/hikes together.  And it's a great way to burn calories, keep in shape and spend time with my dog.

Why do you enter races, ok yes a 5K is a race it doesn't matter if you are in it for the finish or you want to set a PR or have a shot at an age group place?
Three months out from surgery, got an invitation to join Team Challenge and train for a half marathon while raising money for Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA).  Both my kids have Crohn's, so it seemed like a good way to be motivated to get my exercise in while raising money for a cause near and dear to my heart.  Once I crossed that finish line, I was hooked for me.  No I plan them with girlfriends and we make a whole weekend around it, and there are some my hubby and I do together.  If I'm signed up for one, it's a great motivater to keep me exercising.

What do you get out of running/walking?
Calories used that I can spend on chocolate.  LOL   Makes me feel good and strong and healthy.

Do you enjoy it?
On my own, not so much.  When I train with friends, yes!

Where do you run/walk?
Around my neighborhood or the hills nearby, and a lot of nature trailes.

What is your favorite time to run/walk?
I hate waking up, but if we are meeting the group for training and hubby is driving, then I feel so great after an early morning training.  Otherwise, evening.

For bragging rights (to say that I can). Secondarily, it actually creates some awesome endorphin boosts.

I have not yet. I am sorta chicken. I want a 5K buddy. Maryland peeps, anyone care to take up the challenge?

A sense of accomplishment. Not everyone pushes to run, especially not more than about a half a mile. Doing three miles, for me, is epic. I was a fat person who did not WALK one mile much less run three.

Um...no. Not at all. I sort of hate it while I'm doing it. Unless of course I've had a banana first. Then it's gravy.

On the treadmill usually (bad Nikki!)

No preference although earlier in the day I seem to have more endurance.

Why do we run or rather why do you run?

It was a personal challenge that I wanted toachieve after RNY.  I was in the Army in my early 20s and ran a lot then.

Why do you enter races, ok yes a 5K is a race it doesn't matter if you are in it for the finish or you want to set a PR or have a shot at an age group place?

I love love love races.  I don't really care what my time is...as long as its better than the last race.  I just enjoy crossing the finishing line and the energy level.

What do you get out of running?

Personal achievement.  Clears my brain.

Do you enjoy it?

Honestly, I don't really enjoy training in between races.  I get bored very easily and it takes me a while to hit my zen.

Where do you run

Treadmill at the gym in the winters, on the roads in the summer.

What is your favorite time to run.

I like early morning or right when the sun is about to set.

Why do we run or rather why do you run?
Because I never have before.  I would jog a little and then give up. Now I want to quit NOTHING

Why do you enter races, ok yes a 5K is a race it doesn't matter if you are in it for the finish or you want to set a PR or have a shot at an age group place?
Originally I just wanted to finish.  Now I have started setting goals - steady improvement of finish time, being able to jog / run the whole 5k, then maybe shooting for placement?

What do you get out of running?
a sense of accomplishment, feeling strong and healthy

Do you enjoy it?
sometimes more than others

Where do you run
I've just started jogging in my neighborhood, previously I was too embarrassed for anyone to see me; before that it was mainly in the gym on the TM, or a little out in my back pasture
