surgeon changed his goal for me?
My surgeon's intial goal for me was 70% of excess body weight loss. I have stuck to the plan, and am now at more than 100% excess body weight loss. My doc's office is fine with where I am, but they don't want me to go below the range for a normal BMI.
They did stress the importance of making the most of the first 6-9 months post RNY, as that's the time that it is easiest to lose weight.
Keep to the plan, get your protein in, and some exercise, and you'll be great!

I'm 5'7", and my surgeon's goal initial goal was 170. The office was happy when I reached 150. I'm at 121 now, and the doc's office is OK with that, but I'm working on keeping it there.
Don't worry about losing fast - you'll have stalls and slowdowns etc, and your body will figure out where it wants to be.
I do think that exercise and strength training have been a significant reason for my weight loss exceeding the initial estimates.

i guess thats true :) i didnt think of it that way. :) the only thing i really do for exercise is zumba (at home) , biggest loser work outs DVD (was given to me by my doctor) and walk. oh and i have two children 2 and 11 months so im constantly on the go :) now if only my breathing issues, knees, back, and legs would let me do more then 10 min at a time! :( but right now thats my PCP goal for me. she said as i lose weight ill be able to do 20 min 30 min 45 min and hour long work outs :)
On the little paper they give me when I weigh in my expected weight loss went down when I lost weight. The expected is the "average" for my weight it was explained for me. I too am 5'3" and while the average would put me at 146 I have a personal goal of 120.
I was told that at one month out they would give me my "goal" weight.

This is a great topic! I was hoping for 180 though I'd still be considered obese because I'm 5'5 but I also was going to let the surgery take it's course, follow the plan and she how I do. My surgeon hasn't discussed goals with me either. I am going to day for my 10 day followup from surgery so I thought I would ask him. We discussed the various option and felt that the RNY was the surgery would produce the results that I needed to be healthy. That's his goal. To get to 150 would be like a dream. I haven't weighed that since early high school. I'll keep you posted!
