When did you start to try salad and what kind of lettuce did you start with?  What kind of dressing do you like?  Did you add any other veggies?  I am supposed to still be on soft foods, basically with no raw fruits or raw veggies.... but I am craving a salad sooooo bad......

I didn't start eating salad until I was able to get in my 3oz portion of protein at a meal and still have room for more food after that. When that happened I used a zero calorie salad dressing (Walden Farms, I think). The salad probably had tomatoes on it with iceburg lettuce, but that was a long time ago so I can't swear to it.

I would recommend that you wait until you are cleared for fruit and veggies and can eat enough protein first.

I didn't start eating salad until I was allowed to eat "normal" food, such as beef, chicken, turkey etc. etc. I love 1000 Island and Ranch dressing. Most vinegrettes,

Literally like 3 weeks ago. And that's only if I have space in my pouch for it, which I usually don't. I eat just plain romaine lettuce and I don't put dressing on it. If I feel like some, I use a low calorie dressing and ill dip a few pieces in it, I don't pour it on my salad. I've also eaten baby carrots (finally! Yay!) and cucumbers, but never all together.

Weeks ago...It was suggested to stay away from iceberg, but spinach or arugula would be fine. I've had no problem--so far--with any type of salad, even iceberg. Usually, I'll have it with my Sesame Ginger dressing--not much, though.

As far as other veggies, I haven't had any problems. It's kind of a trial-by-error to find out what you can tolerate. Good luck, and enjoy!

I was able to start eating salad about six weeks out.  Iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, etc..  I don't use dressing and have

had no problems.  I also eat broccoli and raw carrots.  I have a problem sometimes with the carrots getting stuck in my stoma,

but not always.

We weren't allowed solids until week 9, and at that point we were allowed to eat whatever we chose.  I think I was probably 3 months out before I ate much salad, but I've never had a problem.  I eat all kinds of veggies and salad dressings.  I still dump though so have to watch how much fatty dressings I eat at one time.

Hang in there - there IS salad in your future=)

I got salad when I went to solid foods which was about 2 months out. I had 4 weeks of puree and 4 weeks of soft food before I got to solid food like meat (steak). I always eat protein first. I make about a cup of salad with all kinds of fresh vegetables in it. I use Ken's steak house lite northern Italian dressing. 2 tbs for about 45 calories. I eat as much of that until I feel fool as best I can tell. Most of the time, I can't tell but know if I eat slow, I can eat up to a cup of salad. I have it just about every night.

Larry, that is my very favorite dressing!  Makes a great marinade too!

Wow!  You are still on soft foods 2 months after surgery?

Just goes to show how different each surgeon's plan is!  I was allowed raw veggies by week 4.  I rarely ate/eat salad though....I'll have a few bites after my meat, but for the most part I don't eat it anymore.  I prefer other fresh veggies that have more to offer nutrtionally....and when I do eat salad, I do not eat iceberg lettuce.  I like the darker, leafier varieties.

I had a very hard time with creamy, thick dressings early on....I moved on to vinegar based dressings, and to this day prefer those.
