My surgeon says steroids are fine. I made a point of asking prior to surgery because of my RA. I knew NSAIDS were out so wanted to know what I could take if I had problems.

Mine says they are fine - I was on them before surgery & after - long term.  He just said to make sure I took my prilosec, and that it could slow down weight loss.

So, so far we've had ten responses and nine of ten surgeons say steroids are OK.

Did your surgeon say WHY no steroids, not even shots?

Dr Kim's nurse Sharon K on 8/14/2013 said steroids can cause ulcers and perforations in the pouch. Also in Dr Kim's RNY Gastric Bypass Patient Education Handbook Chapter 4 1st page "Taking steroids of any kind, even by injection, requires taking a "protectant".

How odd.  Steroids don't cause ulcers (all of the recent studies show a "statistically insignificant" or only a very small increase in peptic ulcers with steroid use) , NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatories) do.

Just out of curiosity, what does your surgeon suggest for severe inflammation then?
