AGE RELATED
I was about 10 years younger than you when I had my RNY six years ago, but I know two women who were over 50 when they had RNY and both have done well. One of them has a LOT of wrinkly skin, but she lost ALL of her excess weight. The other woman lost most of the weight.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
I was 60 when I had my rny. I am just one pound away from my goal, so my weight loss has been very good. My date was 12/20/12. I had two complications, both very minor - first, I was allergic to the surgical glue keeping my laparoscopic incisions closed, so I got itchy hives. I used a cortisone cream on the glue sites, and that went away in just a day or two. Second, one of my incisions became infected; it was the one by my navel. I expect it became infected because of my elastic waistbands rubbing against it. Again, I got some antibiotic cream and some pills and it was fine within a week or two. The only regret I have about the whole thing is that I didn't do it sooner. Also, I have some loose skin on my arms and my face and neck aren't as firm as they were when they were plumped and full. My belly isn't as bad as I feared it would be, and I have no plans to have any surgery to take off excess skin. Good luck!
I was exactly 56 years old also. Had my RNY in April, 4 months ago and loosing weight a little slower than the young folks, but I have no complaints. Had no complications, went home the next day. I took 6 weeks off of work because I had plenty of time on the books (State Worker) but I could have went back after 3 weeks. I feel great, go to the gym 3 or 4 times a week, walk at work and eating healthy foods with no problems. Go for it!
I just had my RNY on 7/30 at age 62 - almost 63 as of Aug. 30th! Only problem I had was immediately after because I don't do anesthesia well - nausea and dizzy for about 24 hours. At less than 2 weeks out I am down 10 pounds from my get home from hospital weight and am exercising daily. I love the Leslie Sansone Walk at Home video and by pushing through I can do the 3 mile one - about 45 minutes of really aerobic walking. So you'll do fine and be like me - wish insurance companies covered this surgery years ago!
