I cried when I gave my first few bags away. Even tho I was thrilled to be in a new size, I had favorite outfits that I found so hard to part with! Congrats on your new size!

I would easily believe it's hard to get rid of the larger sizes, since before RNY there's always been regain, at least for me. I guess it depends on whether or not you are confident in yourself and in the process to get rid of the "safety net".

I didn't have many clothes at my heaviest weight so I was eager to get new ones at first. As I started to like my smaller sized clothes it was sometimes hard to get rid of favorites. I've gone from hating shopping to being a big fan of Goodwill and resale shops. So mucH cheaper!

I just packed up too large trash bags full of 30/32 & 28's to donate. I'm down a total of 80 lbs from  the start of my medically supervised diet and 40 lbs of that is post op, I'm 8 weeks post op. we are getting ready to move so funds are tight & I am making do with what I can keep on ( thank you ties at the waist :-) ).  I have to say I am not shedding any tears at this point. I may when I start to look good in clothes and have to get rid of them

I don't think it is abnormal. But I know we spend a lot of money on clothes so what I did was found someone who needs them and it will be easier to get rid of them.

It's pretty common.  I didn't have trouble getting rid of most of my very largest clothes -- I kept a couple of my largest items for "posterity"... Something I highly recommend, BTW, because when you get discouraged at a stall, you can look at your "starting weight" jeans or whatever and SEE how far you have come, and that is a HUGE psychological boost -- but I did have trouble parting with some of the outfits that were, at one point, my "favorites"... things that I felt pretty wearing. (When you start with a BMI of 57, there aren't many of those items!)

I set the "emotional" items aside in a box and got rid of the other clothes, and by the time that I got down fairly close to my goal weight, I had purchased some new clothes that I felt even better in, and then it wasn't hard to part with the size 26, 24, 22, etc. items at all!

There is no rule that says you have to get rid of everything right away!

I still have the capri pants I wore to and from the hospital ...

Yep. I saved the sport knit pants with elastic waist that I wore to/from the hospital (and many, many other days... more days of the week than not since I had them in  three  colors), sweater that I wore a lot, the one pair of jeans that fit at my heaviest, and a tieback dress.

I can now easily stand with both legs in just one leg of the jeans (I just love that!) and the dress now looks like a blanket!!

I actually just went through my closet a couple days ago and am left with almost nothing. I saved a couple of my biggest outfits, but happily parted with the rest. I am however having a hard time wearing some of the new pants I got because I keep thinking I can't possibly be wearing that size and have some sort of fear that I'll put them on and they won't fit. :/ Still working on actually seeing the loss I guess. Good luck!
