Protein Shakes after surgery - Yay or Nay
I have one every day for breakfast. I drive 1.5 hours each way to work and its a good quick breakfast that I don't have to hurry up and "eat".
Cari: Don't fall in love with a protein shake, your taste buds completely change after surgery, if you like it now you may hate it later and vice versa. hard to believe but true!
The point being, of course, to get in enough protein daily to meet your requirement. Many, many folks are able to consume enough food to meet their goal. Some of us, myself included, need a protein shake in order to boost their daily consumption up to hit the goal. I don't mind making my morning shake, and actually like the ones that I have each morning (thank you EggFace). The first year or two are definitely a learning time in a lot of ways -- retraining your brain and your body to live and move as it should in a healthy, life-sustaining way. And I second the remark about not locking in to anything specific pre-surgery, but be prepared to try a few different things to find what you like after!
Good luck to you in reaching your goal!

Yay, I am not a breakfast sort of person but know I cannot go without a meal 1st thing anymore because I would lose an opportunity for sustenance now that I have a pouch.. If I have to eat in the am it's usually cereal (I do not like eggs at all) and cereal does not supply enough protein for my taste. I was a coffee drinker so drinking a protein shake is very doable for me now. Works perfect. As well as Great for me following my am workout!!! I will probably always do this or at least until I can figure a way to get protein in my breakfast foods that I can tolerate and /or like. Everyone does it different and to me there really isn't any wrong way as long as you are getting your daily requirements and staying healthy & satisfied as well.

YAY - my nutritionist does not have an issue with including a shake every day to keep protein up. I usually have a shake for breakfast or my mid-morning snack. I have also reached my goal weight, so in addition to the protein, also need the additional calories to maintain my current weight.

Yay. I am almost 10 months out and have to use some sort of protein supplement to keep my protein intake 80-100g per day. I use protein powder, so can make a shake with ice, or put in yogurt or oatmeal of variety. I also use Ensure high protein shakes with 25g of protein when I need something quick. I cannot eat enough dense protein during the day to meet my protein needs, so will probably use protein powders/drinks indefinitely.
yay! I would never get my protein in otherwise. My protein was low pre and post op so I am supposed to try to get 80g a day at least, rather than just 60-80. Not necessarily yay to taste though. Sometimes I can't stand them and have to change it up. I like the Genepro unflavored protein I buy on Amazon, I can mix it into other things besides shakes... now that the weather is getting cold.
