Hi Kat,

I had the RNY 2 years ago and am just starting the Keto diet. Im just wondering if you slowly increased your fat intake. My stomach is really struggling with the high fat. Im wondering if I should just work on increasing it slowly?

This is the one area that keeps me from being a hardcore Keto -- I eat more protein (as we don't absorb as well) and less fat.

This isn't intentional, mind you, it's just that I refuse to eat fat for fats sake. However, I don't limit naturally occurring fats at all -- I eat the fat on meat, cook with butter, olive oil, coconut oil -- use full fat dairy, etc. I do not use hydrogenated oils, however.

I hope that answered your question -- if not, just let me know.

Nothing radically new to add, and this advice is NOT from a vet or RNY related. After surgery or any body trauma, it's really important to boost your protein so your body has the materials it needs to heal.

Just a reminder to push a lot of protein through your system over the next couple of weeks, and to continue to do so if you start to exercise or otherwise cause the body need to do some repairs.

Good luck!!!

This is the way of eating I have adopted. You will have to watch fat intake some initialally. Once you are completely cleared to eat all foods you can start moving forwards lchf, and later keto.

I was 13 years post-op and did the keto way of eating (WOE) with minimal issues. I lost 40 lbs. very quickly. I had a revision to my RNY last November (shortening of the common channel only), and lost ZERO aside from my liquid diet weight (-15 lbs), so I'm back on keto to see if I can get the scale to move. Day 5, and so far just 2 lbs the second day. Not stressing, though. Just going to ride it out and see if I can get the same results. :)

Good for you! I am also 13 years post op RNY. My weight gain has been minimal, 20 lbs thought i would do keto Dr Burg plan. My question is: i cant eat enough protein to absorb it. So i will have to supplement with protein powder but that will mess up my carbs. How do others deal with our need for protein with keto diet?

2 weeks in keto feel great good clean eating down only 4 lbs

thanks,

Tami Lynn

Hi! I am 12 years post op RNY and have gained about 40 lbs from my goal weight of 130 that I hit. I have started Keto and have not seen rapid results I seem to lose and gain the same 4lbs. Would you be willing to share the plan you are following and any advice you may have. I'm starting to feel like that its just impossible for my body to lose any weight.

thanks for any feedback provided.

Okay, so here's a follow up. After losing nothing from shortening the common channel (and having bad inflammation, to the point my back and knees were seizing and I was popping Advil several times a day, then getting yelled at that half of my calories should be coming from carbs), I started back on keto around the end of January 2018.

I was 263 before my pre-surgery liquid diet, and 252 the day of surgery. I was just counting carbs and nothing else, and weight was barely dropping. My macros were running about 120 protein/100 fat/20 carbs.

I finally went to see a dietician who is all about "moderate protein," as in .08 g protein per pound of LEAN muscle only (most calculators use your total weight). Weight has been dropping in spurts, and not nearly as fast as last time. This morning I was 228, but at least the trend is going in the right direction. :-)

My current macros, after the dietican used his fancy machines to find my TDEE, BMR, etc, are 44-48 g protein/120 fat/20 carbs. The protein feels very restrictive to me, and I am cursing the dietician every day, but it seems to be working and is true "moderate" protein. Trying it out for a few weeks, then I may alter macros a bit.

Good luck, everyone!

You didn't say what your calories were per day?
