........as long as you're having this surgery for YOU, no one else's opinion of what you do should count!!! Being a healthier, slimmer you is a goal for YOU, not them, so it matters NOT what they think!!! I hope you have an uneventful surgery, and ROLL UP that SLEEVE!!!! (I prefer to think of this as a battle!)

I have heard that myself and I understand where you are coming from. This is about you and your health. I am 5'1 and currently 259 but have been up to as high as 320. I made this decision for me and my health and if people want to give me their input I tell them I am not a dang suggestion box so go stuff it where the sun doesn't shine! Don't let them get to you cause odds are they have never been in our shoes. Remember this is all about you!!!
Goo luck!

It's funny when you hear what others really thought of your weight.  My good friend told me the other day she couldn't really understand why I had the surgery...she didn't think I was that overweight.  So I asked her how much overweight did she think I was.  She said 30 pounds.  At my highest a few years ago, I was 240.  Surgery day 194, today I'm 138.  She was quite shocked!

A lot of people don't understand what you go thru being so overweight.  Some don't have a clue that you have other medical issues that would go away if you could only lose the extra.  Some have no idea that your family history includes one side of the family that are all 300+ pounds and you worry you're getting awfully close to it.  So many are un-informed or mis-informed and think everyone dies or has complications.  Diet and exercise do work for a few people.  Fortunately for the rest of us, there are skilled doctors doing WLS!

Good luck!

I had as nurse say that to me when I was in the hospital after surgery!!!  I basically only tell certain people I had WLS.

Wait until you start hearing..
"you don't need to lose any more"
"your getting too thin"

LOL  you just gotta chuckle.....

For good friends, help them understand: Ask what they weigh, then get them to hold something 25 or 50 lbs and walk around with it a bit. Have them try to sit down and stand up.

For others: I just tell them: Thanks! I carry my weight well, but it really is a health issue for me.

I guess people are just trying to be nice or act like we aren't as big as we are, but geez, how annoying!  Another reason I'm glad I'm not telling anyone.  This kinda stuff kills me!

So awesome you are 18 days away!  I'm less than 2 weeks from surgery now.  How AWESOME for us??

Yep, I hear ya.  I actually made that exact comment to a bff about 10 years ago before she had gastric bypass........UNTIl she lost 130 pounds and looked fabulous!  I just saw her as my bud not someone who was 100 lbs overweight.  KWIM?  Good luck with your surgery and enjoy this life changing ride!  Hugs.......Jennifer
