I am scheduled for surgery next month. I wanted to know what the average time off of work is for people.

I took a total of 2 weeks. I had no complications only heartburn yet a day of nothing but a bath and trip to the grocery store wipes me out! So gage your energy level over a short amount of time and determine if you can do it.

Two weeks was enough for me. I work at a desk though. It probably makes a difference as to what you do.  I have seen people go back to work after a couple of days and I have seen people off for 6 weeks. I would start with your doctor's recommendations and re-evaluate it at a follow up if you need to.

I took two weeks, my job is physical. Less physical work might be quicker return. But if you have the time to take, take it!

it depends what you do for a living. many people return at 2 weeks when they have desk jobs.

i have a strenuous job in health care which did not really allow water or food breaks in the quantity i needed them. i think i stayed out 10 weeks, went back for a month, and had to go back out again because i was becoming dehydrated from work.

so it all depends on your work load. you shouldnt be lifting over 15lbs for at least 6 weeks so if you have to lift, you may have to be out.

what i always say is to take enough time to heal from this major surgery, and to learn your new eating and drinking schedule. dont rush back if you dont have to.

if your job will let you drink at your desk, you should be ok.

I felt like I could go back after a few days, but took 3 weeks off cause I had vacation hours to use up.

I believe the average is like 2 weeks. But you never know what will happen. You could have more/less pain than you anticipate.

I took three weeks off. TBH I wish I would have only taken one.
