transfer addiction

I know transfer addiction is a topic that comes up frequently, with things such as alcohol, gambling, exercise, sex, and shopping among other things.

I admit I have an addictive personality I am addicted to food, I smoked for 18 years, I have to have someone hold onto my debit card for me when we go to the casino, I wish I could get addicted to exercise, and my husband wishes I was addicted to sex.

Since surgery has been an excellent tool to help control my addiction to food, I have noticed an increase in something I use to hate doing.  SHOPPING.  I'm sure many of you might understand that in the past I use to have breakdowns in dressing rooms because things didn't fit right or at all or I had to go up yet another size or the limited selection of non-granny cloths in plus sizes.

Thankfully so far I have limited my shopping sprees to thrift stores, and have been able to use the excuse that none of my old cloths fit anymore (for the first time in my life my cloths are too big!!!).  I have filled my closet with the size I am currently wearing, the same size I wore in high school; and still can not stop myself from stopping at the local thrift stores at least once if not twice a week.

Anyone else find themselves suffering from the same affliction? I need some helpful tips on how to curb my new addiction.

I think you have to decide how serious the problem is -- if you think that it will escalate, and you will be spending more than your budget and getting into financial trouble, then I'd say counseling now, before it gets out of control.  Otherwise, as long as you are shopping at thrift stores, staying in your budget and WEARING most of the clothes you are buying, then I'd just look at it as enjoying your new shape, and being sensible about figuring out what kinds of clothes/styles look good on you!

Or take your husband's advice on transferring your addition -- and you'll burn some extra calories!

Best of luck!  I'm worried about this as well!  I'm a quilter, so I'm afraid I'll end up buying scads of fabrics that I love, but don't make anything out of them -- which is a huge waste!

My mom is a quilter as well and I dabble in it.  I raided her fabric stash and made two quilt tops in the last 3 months for the Family Christmas Raffle, we don't do gift exchanges anymore because there are over 60 ppl in my family.  Then I gave the tops to my mom with batting and backing fabric to put together. frown  I also bought my brother a big piece of muslin to tye-dye for a cheater quilt.

Oh, and I don't spend money that is needed for bills or necessities on my thrift shopping, but I could be putting that money toward paying off the hospital bill a little faster. It averages out to between $20-$30 a week that would have been spent on Starbucks or drive thru before.

I really wish my transfer addiction was exercise too, but alas I'm finding I'm rather lazy! I have not discovered shopping...yet...but I haven't hit the place yet where I have no clothes that fit. The only clothes shopping I have done is for pjs and undergarments. It's coming soon though since I'm now in my size 18s that were hidden in my drawers. I think I only have one size 16 in pants in my drawers and that one is old and very wore looking so I probably won't wear those much. Shopping will become a necessity and if it suddenly becomes fun to shop, I could totally see that becoming an addiction!

My transfer addiction is exercise and I am sporting an ugly injury from it.

Won't stop me from going back.

JMO, but I fully believe we can pick our transfer addiction. It doesn't have to pick us.

Agreed.

I'm working hard to pick my new addiction.  I would really like it to be exercise and household activities (keeping cleaner, cooking more, budgeting better, organizing, gardening).  My hubby is rooting for sex!

I induldged in shopping before surgery...shoes, handbags, accessories! Since I couldn't fit into any clothes I wanted. I started a Pinterest page in order to get some of what I "wanted" and "needed" straight so I didn't ovewr do it (or over did it a bit less).

I have a ton of smaller sized clothes at my parents house so when I'm home for chrstmas I'll be stocking up on oldies! But goodies!
