I got my date! And it's sooner than I'd expected...

My insurance company came back with a decision quicker than I'd anticipated, and my doctor will be out of the country on the week I wanted to have my surgery, so it looks like the official date is 04/12/2013! That gives me only 10 days on the pre-op liquid diet. It's a good thing I'd started dieting and exercising consistently a few weeks ago to be in tip top shape for recovery.

I'm excited but so nervous! The whole idea of the surgery is scary. The life changes afterward are exciting!

It is normal to be excited and nervous.  When you think about the surgery being scary just stop and think about how scary the slow death of obesity would have been.  Puts things into perspective.  The surgery is a quick hour to an hour and a half of your time and you will be knocked out and unaware of everything.  Also keep in mind that statistically it is a safer surgery than a laparoscopic gall bladder surgery by a little bit.  If I remember the numbers I think it is something like a 1% chance of a serious issue with the gall bladder removal and a 1/2% chance of a serious issue with the VSG.  This is according to a study that was shown to me by Dr. Paul Enochs of Cary, NC.

Anyway ... congrats.
