I'm looking at $11,900 at the University Of South Alabama Hospital. It includes pre-op, post-op for 3 months and $50,000 insurance for 60 days after in the event of complications I still want to shop around. I also live near Biloxi, Gulfport , and Hattiesburg, Ms .Anything better out there?

Not sure about that area but would Charlotte NC work for you?  Same cost includes all pre op expenses and post op follow ups (minus lab work costs I think but am not sure) for one year and you are covered by insurance for 90 days against strictures and stenosis with the option to purchase additional insurance to extend that coverage.

Actual place can be found by searching the internet for The Center for Surgical Weight Loss at Lake Norman.  Once you get to the website there is a tab at the top to click for information on self pay.  They also have a special package deal for people that are coming from out of state.

I realize that this isn't really the are you were looking for but thought it was worth mentioning.

Believe me..... I know that money can always be an issue....

Just know that all VSG's are not created the same and it is a non-standardized procedure.

Keeping price in mind, I would also figure in surgeon success, both in complication rate and % of EWL averages.

Lots and lots of programs now deem 50-60% EWL as successful. They give you a larger sleeve and a liberal eating plan and shoot for 50% If those are your same intentions and goals than it's perfect. Pick a surgeon that has the same goals that you have in mind.

Does this mean you don't have current health insurance?? I had mine at USA with Dr. Richards.  He has great bedside manners and is very caring.  Everything was covered with my insurance.

take your time and shop around you want a surgeon with a good record of safety and success, you want a good support system

you might want to check out doctors in new Orleans and in Texas, It is best if you can find a good local surgeon so you don't have problems with visits

bed side manner is nice but you will only see the surgeon a few times and a great surgeon with lousy bedside manner is better than a lousy surgery with great bedside manner (think D nick Rivera from the Simpsons)
