Having a hard time with cravings 9 days post op.

All of a sudden since day 5 I've been craving every salty savory thing I would normally eat knowing I can't right now. What's funny is I would normally crave sweets and I have no desire for any of that stuff. Are these feelings normal and when will they go away? I'm dying for a piece of pizza or chicken or burger right now. Please Help!

I didn't have this problem at all right after surgery so I'm not sure if it's normal or not. My plan had me on just clear liquids with clear protein added to them. (That was the worst 10 days post op!) I was so focused on that, I really didn't think about food! I wanted to "eat" so I tried my best to get the chewing from eating Popsicles and Jello. Also, I probably got plenty of salt since I drank a lot of broth. :)

Here's a thought though. Maybe you're electrolytes are a little out of balance right now and you could use some G2 Gatorade or something like that and that's why you're craving something salty.

It's mental. You're in the liquids phase and your brain is testing you. Hold put, drink water and hit the sugar-free Popsicles. Once you move to mushy food the feelings diminish. They diminish further once you go to solids.

I had that same problem right around the same timeframe too. I've had it a couple times since then.

Mostly I've just had to sit with it and/or distract myself.

Welcome to head hunger. You have described it perfectly. You think you really want something, but you know your tummy will not do well if you were to try it. . I feel your craving. Go get something you can have and the head hunger will eventually pass. I would drink that G2. Electrolytes are always good.

I reaaaallly struggled with cravings at first.  So much so my husband and children willingly completely rid the house of all temptation, a tough order given my surgery was right before Xmas.  My husband still saw me struggling, so went on a diet with me.  He lost more and faster than I did.  So yea, cravings.... I promise it will get easier.  As you progress through the stages you will work your way back to feeling a bit more satisfied.  Stay the course and you will be rewarded somewhere around week 6-8 with the realization that you now crave healthy foods and don't miss the junk much anymore.

Hang in there.  You are in the toughest part.
