I have come to see this is common, but...
I started my pre-op diet today, and oh, man has it sucked. I have felt hungry all day, so I have been very consciously not eating! That means I have spent the whole day thinking about food! I work in a pharmacy inside a grocery store (both good and bad), so I spent all day surrounded by food, and so hungry, to then be off work and thinking about how thoroughly in satisfied I am with this bland barely-diet. It's even introduced thoughts of "how the hell am I going to do this the rest of my life?!?" Not because I can't eat healthy, but because I'm worried that I'll be so restricted that everything will be slim fast for the rest of my life. This has to be carb detox, right? My mind is playing tricks on me.
Cheetos are not anywhere near as good as my brain wants me to believe right this minute, right?
The good news is that what you describe is temporary. The bad news is it could last until the surgery date. It did for me at least.
During my two week pre-surg diet I felt a constant low level of hunger and never really had that feeling of being full I was so used to. The best I can tell you is drink lots of flavored water and space out your food through the day (eat small). The best best news I can share is that life on the other side of surgery is easier and so worth the sacrifice,

I just finished day 5 yesterday. Day 1 and 2 were the hardest. It was like my body was rebelling for being so mean. I will tell you that it does get better. Yesterday for some reason I was off schedule. I didn't get my water in, I missed my lunch so by dinner time I was crazy hungry. I ate 2 cheese sticks before dinner and 2 after. I went over a little but was ok in the end because I skipped lunch. Hang in there. I keep telling myself I already completed 5 days, no turning back. Good luck and drink drink drink.
Hang in there, Annie. The pre-op liquid diet is the most difficult part in terms of will-power. But its only a short time. You can do it. It'll get easier once the carbs are out of your system in a couple days. Carbs can cause a lot of food cravings.
After surgery it is much easier because your drive to eat is diminished, and your tummy won't want food for a good long while. Then the weight starts falling, and you get healthier and its all so worth it!
best wishes,
Carol
