I feel like I'm on a downward spiral...

I got off my program a bit yesterday, but wasn't too bad. Today, I totally blew it! I feel like I have been on an eating binge and I am so guilty. I was going so well.

You can't do anything about the past so right this minute forgive yourself, learn something about whatever might have triggered the binge so it won't happen again, and start right back on the program!  You can do this!

None of us got to our highest weights by having one or two off days. Promise yourself that you will do better tomorrow and then do it. Did you eat something carby yesterday? If so, it may have triggered cravings. A carb detox might be in order. It's no fun, but it's worth it to get back on track.

Thanks Chrissy. You know, I think it might have been the chili today. I haven't eaten any pasta, rice, potato or bread in about 2 weeks. It had to have been the beans in the chili. That's why I was trying to go cold-turkey with the carbs because I know they set off the negative chain of events. But I thought I could handle it, I was wrong.

Can you tell me about the carb detox? I am willing to try it at this point. Thanks.

For me, a carb detox simply means what you said: COLD TURKEY (possibly literally!!). My daily routine since surgery has included a protein shake for breakfast, so I keep that up. Lunch: lean protein (something boring), Snack: maybe a small shake or some deli meat, Dinner: same as lunch. It usually takes 48 hours for me to stop craving carbs when I do this... I actually plan to do one tomorrow. I made a baby shower cake for my sister last night and "tasted" my scraps, and then today ate some cake and goodies at the actual shower. Tonight, I had a little rice with my dinner (Mexican restaurant). Basically, I've been BAD today. But tomorrow will be a new day, so I'm just moving on.

Best of luck!

Back to cold turkying it for me too. I have a banquet to go to tomorrow so I will focus on meats and low carb veggies. Thanks Chrissy.

It's ok  to fall of the horse... just pick yourself back up!  You can do it.... you remember the surgery and what it took to go through... make it count.

Whenever I feel like I am spiraling, I start my day with a big workout the next day.... usually does the trick!

One of the most important skills Iearned in this process is how to crawl back on the wagon.  Pay attention to how you fell off, and how you get back on.  This way in the future you can avoid the fall, or replicate the crawl.

One bite at a time, right?  Get back on track at the next meal, not the next day.  You can do this.  Courage over comfort is my new mantra with regard to eating and exercise--it is better to do what is courageous (eat right, exercise) than it is to do what is comfortable (eating slider foods, being a lazy butt!).  You can do this!
