TAILBONE PAIN

I am 6 months out and have lost a little over 70 pounds! I have been having pain in my tailbone for the last month or two...It only really hurts when I do sit ups or squats.  I have researched it a little bit and have found that tailbone pain after weight loss is fairly common. Is anyone else experiencing this pain and how are you dealing with it?

Yes I am having issues with that too. I have not found anything to help. 😒

Yes, I have tailbone pain when I sit too long.

It is such a hoot!  A year ago, I was always looking for a place to sit.  Now I find I am sometimes more comfortable standing.  A year ago, I never thought I'd be saying that!

best wishes,

Carol

Same here, I am a year post op. I have a ****yx pillow that I use when I am home and that helps sometimes. I have the ability to stand at work so I usually switch between sitting and standing. I hear that it gets better but I dont see that happening since I have been dealing with this for over 6 months now. It really is a pain in the ass. I couldn't do sit ups, the thought of rocking on my tailbone makes me cringe. It hurts just sitting for me. I am constantly moving to a different position.

How well does that cushion work for you?  I am 9 months out and I find the most uncomfortable is long car rides.  I have to take my son to visit a college in a few weeks and its 13 hours by car and I am dreading it.  I was thinking of getting one of those pillows in the hopes that I might not be so uncomfortable.

Is it because you lost your extra padding? Because, doesn't seem like a "bad" thing in that case. :-)

Do we know why this happens? I have had severe back pain my whole life, only to find out about 2.5 years ago that I had several genetic disorders of my L5 area, and combined with an injury I had a teenager I was in immense pain all the time. I didn't realize this wasn't normal however...you kind of get used to it! Now I am pain free since having a spinal fusion almost 2 years ago, and I would HATE to have back pain again!

YES! I am having major tailbone pain right now, as well as pain in my sitz bones (not to mention my sternum, and even my ribs and hip bones when I lie down - which makes no sense because I have a fair amount of padding at this point). I can't really sit on a hard chair right now. I have one of those blow up donut cushions at home that helps a bit, but is really uncomfortable to sit on. I ordered a ****yx cushion (looks like a little cushion with a cutout in the tailbone area) on Amazon to use on my office chair, which should be arrive any day now. I sure hope it helps.

People seem to say this gets better over time. *crossing fingers*

Be careful! I am pre op, but I injured a disc in my back and had lower back pain. My L5S1 disc is bulging and it was by doing back squats with weights. Obviously this may be something completely different, but my pain started very very low in my back near my tailbone.

I think the pain is a combo of losing the fat padding around the bone and the fact that your posture changes as you lose weight.  The ****yx cushion really helps.  It takes the pressure off of the tailbone.

If it's any consolation, at some point in the last 2 years, it stopped being a problem for me and I can sit for long flights without wanting to scream in pain!
