tomato problems?
Goofy question. I was told that tomato is off the menu after vsg. I don't understand why? I'm thinking a nice couple of slices of beefsteak tomato with salt and pepper or a caprese salad would be nice to go with my protein?
Can anyone clarify?

How weird! I wasn't told this. In fact, I was told the opposite - and I've been eating homemade cream of tomato soup (strained) the past few days.
The only thing I can think of is that tomatoes are high in fructose so you might want to avoid them for that reason.. but I know I'll be loving local tomatoes when tomato season rolls around!

Not being able to eat tomatoes would be horrible, especially with summer and farmers' markets coming soon! I am just getting out of my soft food stage (week 5 post op) but I think the caution you were given might be due to the thick skin of tomatoes. My dietician told me not to eat any fruit or veggies unless peeled first or they would be hard to digest. I will ask about this at the next support group meeting because its bad enough giving up coffee and chocolate, but tomatoes????
Probably the theory is that tomato has both small seeds (to be avoided early on due to them sticking in the staple line) and acid...
