Itchy Torso?

The last week or so I've been experiencing a lot of itchiness around my torso. No rash is developing, so I am prone to reject the idea that it's any sort of allergic reaction, but I am not sure what else it could be.

Has anyone else experienced this? I'm 5.5 weeks out from surgery.

My belly was itchy for weeks after surgery.  I suspect it was the substance they used to clean the belly that didn't agree with me.  I didn't have a rash or any redness, just itchy.  It did go away eventually.

I'm at the same timeframe as you and have the same issue. For me, its the skin over my ribs, just below my breasts that is itchy. Not under the breasts. No rash and not an incision area. So weird. Maybe the skin is shrinking due to fat loss and less overall fluids and that makes it sensitive? My skin does seem a bit drier overall but not itchy anywhere else.

Yes may be an. Allergic reaction to the betadine solution

But the betadine was well over a month before I started feeling itchy. Any other suggestions? It's also my back that itches.

I had an allergic reaction to the glue that was in the for lack of a better term" plastic wrap type bandage

they put over my drain and it looked like I was burned and itched for about 4 months..

but it started itching right away..

Thanks, grayC. I just don't see this as an allergic reaction to anything directly related to the surgery, as that was over a month ago. I thought it MIGHT be a reaction to an increased dosage of my PPI, but the timing is a little off. I think the rapid weight loss and the skin trying to adapt is probably what's going on unless there's something else I just haven't heard of yet.

Your skin sheds millions of cells every day.  With rapid weight loss the skin can't keep up and dry skin cells stay on your body.  It gets really itchy.  The solution is to exfoliate.  I use a dry bath brush on my body before showering and then use an exfoliating cleanser.

Putting lotion on the itchy spots will make them itch more if you don't get the dry skin off first.  It acts sort of like adding Crisco to flour and making a dough layer on your skin.  You can see it under a microscope, it looks like wax paper.

The same thing happens on the scalp and forms dandruff.  Sometimes using a dandruff shampoo like Head and Shoulders on your body will help.

Real life begins where your comfort zone ends

Hmmm, this makes sense. I will give exfoliation a shot today!

This is off topic - but I saw your weight at 254 and thought "Wow, that's awesome!  I can't wait until I get to 254!!"

And then I looked at my weight graph and realized that I actually weighed 254 today.  LOL.
