Hello my fellow sleevers.

im nearly 2 months out of surgery

protein drinks gross me out but I am able to eat more foods meaning I can get my protein from there, thank god.

I was wondering if any of you know a good amount of protein I can get in as a snack. Like almonds, slices of ham, and such. Also, how many grams of protein are you getting in a day? These couple of weeks I lost myself and stopped counting. I wasn't eating bad but I just lost count, but I need some motivation and get back on the eating right train. If you guys know any quotes or things as such please let me know!

thank you :)

The major commandment from my surgery center is 60-80g of protein per day.  They don't require calorie counting or anything else but they do want us making sure to get the protein in.  I don't mind the shakes, but I like the Syntrax Nectar ones that don't require milk.  They mix with water and some I find are good.  The pink grapefruit one tastes just like an Ocean Spray drink and the lemon tea is good as well.  They have 20g of protein per scoop and when I mix them with 16 oz of water, it helps me meet my water needs, too.  (64 oz a day of water is commandment #2.)  I have started getting some protein bars and eat half at a time and they give me about 10g at a time for 1/2 bar.  Eggs are good and there are even some cereals now with 10g of protein per serving.  I don't have any quotes for you, but I personally find I do a lot better by tracking everything I eat on My Fitness Pal.  It helps me know just how I'm doing and includes my exercise, as well.  There are probably other programs out there, as well, but I personally like that one a lot.  I make chocolate peanut-butter balls from Unjury protein powder and they contain 10g of protein each.  Let me know if you want the recipe, or you can find it on Unjury.com.

I'd definitely recommend taking advantage of your time so close to surgery as much as you can.  The determination gets harder to wrangle the further out you are.  I would recommend a minimum of 60+ grams of protein per day -- but really shoot for 80.

Some of my staples are:

  • dannon greek yogurt - 12 g
  • plain greek yogurt mixed w/ protein powder & frozen - ~35 g
  • crustless quiche
  • turkey burger
  • cottage cheese & berries - 12 g
  • string cheese
  • any kind of meat on the grill

Check out the daily thread "whatcha eating today?" people post there menus and it can give you come good idea.

My husband is just a little over two months out and he gets at least 80 grams of protein a day - because I watch him like a hawk! :-)  (I had surgery over a year ago).  We both do greek yogurt for snacks, cottage cheese, turkey sausage snacks, string cheese.  However, there's no way this early out that he could get 80 grams of protein a day if he wasn't doing at least one protein shake.  He does his in the morning and mixes coffee in with it.

It's all about finding the right protein shake that you enjoy - then you'll actually look forward to it!  His fave is the Syntrax Nectar Cappuccino.  Mine is Unjury Chocolate Splendor over ice.

My plan only allows three meals a day, no snacks.  I'm only able to get 2-3 ounces per meal at this point, so I still have one shake a day to reach my protein goals.  I'm getting 60-80 grams a day with no trouble.

I'm 3.5 months out and life is pretty grand :D

I use Optimum Nutrition Double Rich Chocolate or Syntrax Peanut Butter Cookie with unsweetened original almond milk.  I find them very tasty.
