Full Liquid and Pureed Stages

My surgery is on Tuesday and I have been pouring over my binder that I got from the NUT. I went shopping last night to try and prepare for my eating stages after surgery. I am good with the clear liquid, will continue on with the 5 protein shakes, almond milk, broth, jello, Powerade Zero.

My question is about the full liquid and pureed stages. I bought a bunch of cream of mushroom and cream of chicken soups. There are small chunks of mushrooms and chicken in them. My question is, do I have to further chop the soups up before I eat them? Do I need to put them in a food processor or blender to further chop up the mushrooms or chicken? Can't I just chew them until they are emulsified? Same for the pureed stage. I have scrambled eggs on my list of foods and yogurt. Do I have to food process the eggs or the yogurt if it has small chunks of fruit in it or can I just chew, chew, chew?

I have always wondered why it says "pureed" when your teeth do basically the same thing as the food processor. Or maybe it is because some of use are not in the habit of chewing thoroughly enough, so putting it in the food processor will help with the chewing?

You need to strain them or further puree the soups.

You'll find scrambled eggs to be pretty much pureed already.  Just eat them slowing and yes do work on chewing them further.  Do not eat them too fast at the beginning or you'll be enjoying them on the way up.  This is commonly where people often experience what the sleeve controls.

Yogurt chunks should be avoided until cleared for solids.  Even for the versions where there is basically pureed fruit to mix in, stay away from the seeds.

I was told that puréed is not being able to use a fork.  No little bits of anything. Smooth as silk. Everyone is different as to what they can tolerate.  Your new stomach will let you know!!  I happen to have a very conservative  surgeon who has his patients on a 5 week puréed diet.

Trust your Drs instructions. Just sayin'

Yes, you'll need to strain them in full liquids.  During pureed, you'll need to puree anything that isn't a pureed consistency already.  Soft scrambled eggs were good enough that I didn't need to puree them, but yogurt with pieces was not.

My NUT described pureed as the consistency of applesauce.  I used that as a guide and all went fine.  Every doctor has different instructions.  I was only on clear liquid while in the hospital and then pureed for one week after I got home.  Now I am on soft foods for 4 weeks and then normal diet.
