It's been 4 months since VSG surgery and I've lost a smidge over 75 lbs.

Which means I am now in the 150's.

159.7 lbs, to be exact (down from 235 on the first day of my pre-op diet 4 months ago).

The 150's has historically been my weight loss nemesis. In the past 15 years, I've dieted down to the 150's three times only to gain back what I lost and more. So getting under 150 will be a huge symbolic accomplishment for me, and in my mind solidify that I can get to goal.

Here's looking to break into the 140's !

I hear you! My original goal was 140 (which I hadn't seen since 2003). Then when I hit that, the doctor and I set 130. I stay between 125-130 and it's fabulous!

Hang in there. You'll get there!

HW: 240 lbs CW: 205 lbs: SW: 199 lbs GW: 130 lbs
1 MO = 167.0 2 MO = 156.4 3 MO = 148.4 4 MO = 140.6
5 MO = 136.0 6 MO = 130.0 (GOAL) 20 MO = 133

There is theory that everyone can have a body weight set points. Weight that the body is used to and feels comfortable. There is also a theory that one way WLS helps us is to change the body set point.

In the past, before WLS, I would lose down to 175-180, reach it and stay there for ever. Lowering calories, exercise, did not help going below 175. Eventually I would get discouraged, started cheating on my diet and regain. As if me trying to pass that point created a rebound effect.

Post op RNY I have 3 or more weight that my body "fancy": my personal goal is 150-155, but I have problem maintaining that.

  • 140-145 lbs - my body fat % is rather low at that level and my appetite may be gone, and I even dealt with food aversion. Plus - at that weight I get body dismorphia. A few times I reached that low - I felt super huge, fat, and miserable. My therapist thinks it had to do with low body fat% and very low cholesterol and hormonal imbalances.
  • 160 -163, my body likes that set point and as long as I am mindful about eating protein forward meals, don't have to work very hard to maintain. But I have to work very hard to start losing.
  • 170-178 - my highest regain in last 10 years. I hovered over that 2 times, and I had to make an real effort to start losing. But even when I did not care what and how much I ate, going over 175-178 was not happening. Plus that weight put my body into "obese" area of BMI and a major "freaking out" weight point for me.

Just passed my 5-month post op mark and am literally right on the other side of the line of the 140's.

Weighed in at exactly 150 lbs this morning...soooooooooo close!
