Well I'm back had surgery 15 years ago I was 48 then I'm now 62 there have been some life changes retired moves etc ....
I maintained my loss for 12 years after retiring moving to a fun active community I'm busier now than I was when working problem is everything here revolves around food and wine so I was good at partaking . And I have since gained 20 lbs I am determined to get it off - it's hard it going to take a lot longer than I anticipated. I thought I could still loose 8 lbs a month but it's been just over a month no alcohol no sugar no carbs and exercise and I have lost 3 pounds . I'm not giving up I'm going to do this . My tip for all is weigh yourself I do it daily and have since I started this journey and I knew when I started avoiding the scale it was because I knew I gained . If I had gotten on more frequently like at least once or twice a week I would have immediately done things when the scale went up 3-5 pounded but instead I avoided and now I have 20 that creeped on . So weigh yourself keep yourself in check see the scale rise immediately check what your eating and drinking get it off before your body starts loving and getting use to that fat and bad habit set in . I'll keep you posted as to my battle and journey getting it off I can do this .
cheers

Hi there - I had my sleeve 15 years ago and just logged back in here as it has been my strength and support every time I have slipped up . I started my journey over 200 I think 238 lost to 137 at 1 year mark . Stayed at 145 up untiL about 4 years ago when we moved and retired. I have since gained to 155 - what I find is when I don't weigh daily and avoid the scale it's because I don't want to see that I have gained . So I am now back at weighing daily , counting calories , more protein little to no carbs and some increased exercise. Unfortunately there is no magic it really is about calories . Problem is it's slow going especially now since I'm older . 48 when had surgery now 62. I have been eating less than 1000 calories a day exercise 4 days a week an hour and have lost only 3 pounds it's been a month . But I will Never go back to being the fat girl . You can do this just go back to basics and be prepared it's going to take a while .
cheers

Ok you life takes over sometimes -
anyway I'm still hanging there not as good as I expected this is hard y'all don't get comfortable with old bad habits
so technically I have been doing well
a hard boiled egg - water - protein shake
a little chicken and a slice of tomato
my slip up was I had 2 glasses of wine last nite ugh
and my kids and grandkids arrive today for a week so this will continue to be a challenge but I got to do it - I'm still only down 1 pound this is going to take awhile to get off but I believe I can do it .
I'll check back with you in later this week staying accountable wish me luck ??
cheers

Ok -
so I made a plan and I'm trying to tell myself baby steps - you see Hubby and I moved to a community 2 years ago it's like living on vacation everyday
we play games a friends house - we drink wine and appetizers on the dock -
we boat- we jet ski - we golf so it is super hard to put unreal expectations on myself so rather than giving up and throwing in the towel on my first day I'm instead going to say what I did ok and each day will get better and easier -
so I started off with my morning tea
lunch I had a protein shake
dinner I was suppose to have a shake again but hubby grilled a filet minon ugh and cauliflower
so I ate about a inch cube of steak and couple florets of cauliflower had water to drink
was still hungry a couple hours later so I ate three jalapeño stuffed green olives lol
not too terrible and the he scale today came down one pound
wish me luck report back tomorrow ???

weight - it isnt alot 10 pounds but i know too well that if i let it keep going I all be right back to where
I was . So Ill be posting daily about my journey wishing you the best

Hey Yall -
Im back !!!!!!! Why you ask after all this time well I need to get back to basics
and accountability. I moved to Tennessee 2 years ago and have since put on
TEN pounds which I believe now is why they call this gorgeous state TENnessee lol
Anyway I did really well my lowest and most comfortable weight was 135 i didnt mind
fluctuating around 135 TO 140 HECK I was even comfortable at 143 but today after not weighing
regularly I stepped on the scale and it said 153 ------- Oh hell no I am not going back there .
So i have decided to go back on protein shakes for a week then cut all carbs sugar alcohol
I really need to get back and I know the longer you keep the weight on the harder it is to get
it off - So hear I am confessing my eating sins asking for support as I come back and share how my
journey is going each day. Thanks you all this group has always helped me and I appreciate yall more
than you know.
Cheers with water of course

I'm so glad this gives you hope I was researching some things yesterday for my issues I had my surgery 12 years ago and have only had a regain of 8 lbs I am desperately trying to get it off seems so weird now to fight a small amount compared to 100 but it's just as hard . Anyway in my research I saw where a doctor said it is perfectly normal to lose weight slowly in the first month or not at all so hang in there you got this ??

on 6/30/20 7:52 pm
Hang in there stick with the program I went an entire 5 weeks not losing one pound I thought for sure I was the one it didn't work for - but I believe it's such a shock and trauma to your system it takes awhile for the body to adjust . It will work I lost 100 lbs in a year . I know it's hard best to you

on 6/30/20 6:31 pm
So I'm 12 years out from my sleeve surgery gave really maintained well my lowest weight was 137 I am now 145 I want desperately to lose the 8 lbs I have gained but just seems nearly impossible any advice is welcome ?

I'm not sure if nexium is the same but our little stomach still create acid sometimes the acid in your stomach feels like hunger and the acid causes heartburn I would check the active ingredient in both or ask your doctor . It really helped me
best to you

on 7/7/19 6:06 pm
So I haven't been on here a long time 11 years since I was sleeved - I read several posts of newbies saying they feel hungry I have responded to a few but after I saw a repeat of so many I thought I would post my experience as I still suffer from this occasionally- acid sometimes mimics hunger- try an acid blocker Prilosec check with your doctor first of course but has always helped me - best to you all you can do this it is so worth it

on 7/7/19 6:01 pm
I was sleeved 11 years ago don't know how much has changed but my advice has always been - follow the rules strictly for the first 6 months -
acid mimics hunger so get an acid blocker if you feel hungry -
may first more important than anything else is fluids not protein - the protein part will come - you may find as I did hard to drink enough fluids in that case get sugar free popsicles they were my life saver - it's the best thing I ever did for myself -
i have been able to maintain my loss for the most part my goal was 145 I got to 135 and have maintained currently at 140

on 7/7/19 5:54 pm
No don't eat chicken - I was sleeved 12 years ago lost 100 lbs and have maintained - I have had several friends sleeved my advice was always follow the rules - they didn't they have gained back - acid sometimes mimics hunger instill get that to this day and I take an acid blocker for a week or two and im better check with your doc an acid blocker may help with the hunger - hang in there you can do this and it's so worth it

Hi there -
haven't been around just living and loving life just wanted to check in with an update.
I am 10 year post op and maintaining my weight loss well - I really could use some exercise to tone up but that's life .
I recently have been experiencing some stomach issues as I feel bloated and in pain after eating anything and then rush to the bathroom directly after eating so I have been to the doctor and had some tests done awaiting results and today a colonoscopy how fun dor me . The doc doesn't think it is surgery related but I thought I would post just in case I find something out I will pass it along .
Hope all are well
cheers

Well congrats to you on taking the first step I know how exciting and scary it can be.
First I want to tell you having the sleeve is the best decision I ever made for myself - I am 10 years out from my surgery started the journey at around 255 surgery weight I think 230 or around there got to 130 and am currently at 140 I have maintained my weight loss up and down the 5/ 10 lbs.
it does take work I weigh myself several
times a week so as to not let the weight creep up and get out of control. I try and nip it in the butt when I see about a 3 lb gain it's so much easier to take off the 3 vs 10 or 15 and don't want my body to get comfortable hanging on to those extra pounds.
Money thing I can stress is to follow the rules I have had several friends go thru the surgery only to break the rules in the first month and well sorry to say they have all gained the weight back . I think if you follow the rules your body adjusts better and you get use to eating less and better choices the longer you stick to it the easier it becomes and a new way of life to help you keep
iff the pounds .
Hood luck on your journey I'm sure you will do great and use this board to help you thru
cheers

Well I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the further out you get the more the struggle is real - a til is to weigh yourself at least 2 times a week when you see that scale jump 2-3 crack the whip and nip
it quick 2-3 is easy 10-15 is really hard - you can do it ??

on 6/9/17 4:31 pm
I stalled a week after surgery for a long 6 weeks I was sure I was the one who altered my body for no reason and that it wasn't going to work for me. I was a self pay and cried about it thinking i spent all this money but hang in there it finally began to fall off and at about a year out i had lost almost 100 lbs .
You got this.
Cheers MO

Ok been quite awhile since I have been around- I tend to come back here as it seems to be my place for support and strength when I feel like Im slipping back into old me.
I recently started trying to lose weight again... I have gained 10 pounds back since my goal - doesn't seem like much right?? a little more than a pound a year.
I think I could actually accept it if had been a pound a year but the reality is that I have gained it all over the past 1 and a half.
So my husband and I started together trying to cut out must complex carbs no bread pasta rice potatoes sugar wine alcohol etc. just protein and veggies like the old days. So far I'm doing ok i lost a pound I must say it isn't easy but what I am grateful for is this wonderful tool the sleeve because when i eat my meal that I am totally not thrilled with taste like a diet i get full and i say well it was just food and I can't eat more even if I want the bad stuff so.... this sleeve is still working for me after all these years 9 years later.
Truth is and I know you have heard it before it truly is a tool and you have to know how to work with it in order for it to work. I run into people that knew me when I was fat and they always say how long has it been and when i say 9 years they always reply with I am proud of you so many people i know that had the surgery have gained it back. My response is always welt first I got looked at like I was week taking the easy way out having the surgery but now years later I am looked at as strong because I have made it work.
So i guess for this reason for this long post is you can do it too just learn what works for you and watch those nasty evil carbs sugar and don't drink you calories. Chips cookies etc are way too easy to over eat on.
Cheers

Yes but very little I loved rice before surgery and love it now however I can only eat about two tablespoons of it - it continues to expand so I really have to be careful . But yes I believe you will eat again - I did not eat it until about 1.5 years out ?

on 4/23/16 6:45 am
Oh so sorry hang in there been there too. I can remember thinking those exact words what have I done to myself. People would ask me a couple months out are you glad I did it and I would respond ask me in 6 months well guess what 6 months later I was shouting from the roof top wanting to let all my fat friends know there really is help the best thing I ever did - I am now 8 years post op and have only gained back over the years 5 pounds of my 100 pound loss . So hang in there it truly gets better and i am still shouting the best thing I ever did but just remember it is not magic and you have to work hard at it. And I know I should not tell anyone this but No i dod not exercise never did to lose the weight I should but I don't.
Cheers
Best to you on your journey
