Question about Soups
I am about 2.5 months out from my RNY and I have been enjoying about a half cup of soup for lunch. None of which are cream soups. Today, I had Italion wedding soup. I make sure what I eat is low in carbs, low cals., and low fat. The protein is low, but I am making up for that with my protein drinks. Are these soups ok to eat? Please share your thoughts.

In my opinion having soup violates the no liquid with meals rule...saying that I have had soup and cereal with milk as long as I have more solid than liquid. I just try and let the cereal soak up the milk and then don't drink it if there is any left...same with soup...I eat the solid part and leave the liquid.
Hope this helps!

I eat split pea & ham soup a lot & throw a pretty good size scoop of cottage cheese in there with it to hike up the protein.
If it works for you, gets you good protein & sits easily when you're a newbie, it's doubtful that your nut would steer you away from it.
When I asked my nut about violating the "no drinking with meals" creed, she told me not to get my info from the internet. So there's that, too..

I called my NUT about this too. I love soups in the fall/winter and couldn't imagine doing without. She assured me that they are perfectly fine. Of course, you need to watch the sodium of some of them as they can be pretty high. I think Stella's idea is fabulous about adding cottage cheese. I am going to try that too.
It's very similar to the WW 0 point cabbage soup with chicken added. I don't really measure anything. I just add what I like in the amounts that I like.
Cook cut up chicken breast (I like it cut into very small pieces) in a pan sprayed with olive oil
Saute onion & garlic in a little bit of FF chicken broth (College Inn or Swanson) in a large pot
Add the cooked chicken
Add a large box/can of broth, tomato paste, cabbage, green beans, and carrots
Add Kosher salt, ground pepper, oregano, basil & bay leaf
Simmer for about 5 - 10 minutes
Then add yellow summer squash (or zuccini) and spinich (stems removed)
Let it all cook together until vegs are tender then enjoy!
Last time I made this, instead of cooking chicken I bought the pre-cooked chicken that you can put in a salad. I just chopped it up into small pieces and added it to the soup.

Hey, I put some cottage cheese in my soup today!
I plan to eat soup when I'm on regular food. I was never big about slurping up the broth though. I think the broth helps make everything easier to get down -- it makes the meat moister and the stringier veggies less tough.
