Last Supper

I don't start my full liquid diet until next week...so this week, I'm fighting off the 'Last Supper Monster' BIG TIME!!

The devil on one shoulder is saying..."You're not on the liquid diet YET"
The angel on the other says..."You know how stupid that would be"

UGH!

Go ahead and enjoy your last suppers. If you have to be on a stupid one-size-fits-all liquid diet for 2 stupid weeks, go for the last suppers, babeee!
Do you want me to tell you how I really feel about surgeons who put lightweights on 2 weeks of liquids only? If you start feeling lightheaded and dizzy when you're on that thing, eat some crackers and cheese or something, okay?

I'm supposed to have 4-5 liquid protein drinks per day
suggested...
8am
11pm
2pm
6pm
9pm (optional)

and i'm allowed the usual...sf jello, sf popsickles and broth.  I found out the other day how much i dislike the broth!

I'll be sure to keep some cheese and crackers handy just in case!  I was holding out hope that my Dr. thought the way you do...I guess not.

My surgeon told me that most WLS surgeon just do what's easy for them. They won't usually do anything that's totally irresponsible; just things that are easier for them to manage. For example, my surgeon initially puts all his patients on Vita4Life multi-vitamins and that's it. 4 capsules a day for banders, 8 for RNYrs and 12 for DSrs. He said that program was not the best, just easier for him to manage. He did say that he doesn't put LWs on a 2 week liquid diet because if a bariatric surgeon couldn't find his way around a LW's liver, he had no business being a bariatric surgeon! I loved that! WOOT! I think the big practices just treat everybody the same regardless of starting BMI or surgery type...it's just easier and the surgeons are very busy.  My 2 cents.

I did not have to do a liquid diet at all and I still wanted one of everything I thought I would not be able to have after surgery. My kids loved it since I just wanted a bite or two of all the junk and they got the rest it was a fun week for them. I am actually glad I allowed myself a bite or two of the stuff I liked  I did not gain weight since it was just a couple bites, now I don't care that I can't have the stuff I once loved it is so odd it's why I love my RN-Y 'cause I was a sugar freak and would not have stopped if it were not for my surgery and the fear dumping. I say have a small amount of all that you love before your 2 weeks starts,  I am sure it is the wrong advice but it worked for me. Congrats on your upcoming surgery!!!

I didn't have to be on a liquid diet for two weeks.  I think I would have died or cheated like crazy.  I was just on soft foods two days before surgery with no starches and the day before surgery I was on clear liquids and did the bowel prep.

Go for the Last Supper.  Go for a couple.  You will be just fine.

I had the band, but my docs pre-op diets are the same for all, just a low carb low calorie, about 1000-1200 cals a day (specific guidelines) but easy, didn't feel hungry at all, felt great in fact.

It pretty much set me up for how I eat now, with some variation.

If you are going to cheat on the pre-op diet, make sure it's high protein, low carb. After all, that's all the liquid diet is and that's what does all the work, not the fact that it's liquid. Well, that and limiting your calories.

Also make sure your surgeon isn't one of those buttheads who will cancel your surgery if you don't lose enough weight on the pre-op diet. If he/she is, then maybe cheating isn't such a good idea after all.

Luckily, I didn't have to deal with this. My original surgeon when I still thought I was getting a band and insurance would pay for it, makes everyone lose 10% of their bodyweight and will cancel your surgery if you are even .5 a pound short. Don't get me started on how stupid that is.

I was supposed to do a two week liquid diet. I sort of did. I ate stuff I shouldn't have, but only protein for the first week. The second week I stuck to the liquid diet because the surgeon does not require a bowel prep (since we are on liquids) and I did not want to be insufficiently empty. I did lose 15 pounds the two weeks preop and actually that is better than I have been losing postop. Interestingly the doctor said nice job on the liver!
I think the liquid protein diet helped me deal with the head huger preop and I did not have that much post op.
Before my two week diet I did the last supper thing and did put on about 5 pounds. I ate all the really bad for me things that I love and know I would not be eating again. I don't think it hurt me.
