Am I a lightweight?

Someone suggested I come to the lightweights board. I never considered myself a lightweight. When I started this adventure I weighed 290 on my surgery date (BMI was ~40). I was 330 two years ago. So, am I a lightweight in the WLS world?

You are at this point! I think with your surgery BMI, you would qualify.

I'm not a technical LW, but I am in my heart and these people have accepted me and loved me. Welcome to the board and huge congrats on your success thus far!

None of us have considered ourselves a LW before surgery but with a BMI of 40 you are definitely a lightweight!   You must be really tall!!!!   Even if you weren't a LW you'd be welcome!!

I am 5' 11". When I weighed 290 my BMI was ~40. Now it is 33.3 in just 7 short weeks! I never ever thought this would happen to me. Now if I could just find a job things would be pretty darn good in my life.

Its interesting...this whole LW thing.  I'm 5'11 and weigh 260lbs, my high has been 280lbs.  I have the required BMI and comorbidities and am on the wait list for the assessment and surgery process in my province and I always find it interesting when I read accounts of people who have lost 100lbs only to get close to the weight that I am starting out at.  They talk about having resolved comorbidities like high bp and high cholesterol, no more aching back or knees.  I guess it is all relative, since I'm plagued by these problems at my current weight.  But it also makes me realize how much improved nutrition and diet may have to do with feeling better and the resolution of the comorbidities.  its not just losing the weight, its actually changing the diet that is making people healthier...in addition to the weight loss.

Just because you may only have 80-100 lbs to lose doesn't mean you don't have issues. Someone who is not a LW can have this surgery without proving comorbid conditions, we are rrequired to prove those. I think just getting to surgery is harder for us.

Welcome to the board, sirm2m

Welcome. You are certainly a LW and even if you weren't, we are pretty accepting.  If you find us helpful, stick around and contribute.  Sounds like you are doing great.
