Praying nothing happens tomorrow.

I got a puppy on 9/11, my kids were outside playing with her after school and I was glued to the TV.
It was a tramatic day.

I'm a worrier so I can't rely on intuition because chances are it's just me worrying.

9/11 was a terrible time but I loved the way it brought our country together.

I Loved all of the Flags, the red/white/blue, and the patriotic songs.  Where have all of those flags gone?  We fly our flag proudly every single day.

When the storm hit our yard knocking down trees, demloishing our swing set, and ripping off shingles it also tore our flag pole out of the ground.  Before we fixed or replaced anything else we went out and bought a new flag and DH fixed the flag pole.  I still have the torn up flag and I just can't bring myself to burn it.

God is walking with me every step of the way. Because of HIM this is possible!!

Roz....that is really sweet!! I just have a little ole flag by my mailbox but it brings me solace so your post made me smile.
We (the universal "we" not just Americans) are bigger than the hate and destruction in the world. Your post reminds me of that.

I was so traumatized by 9/11.  I could barely function for months.  That night for some reason I went to sleep with the TV off.  To this day I have always had the TV on all night but for some reason I didn't that night.  I got up early that day and my kids had been sick the night before so I called the school to say that they wouldn't be there, that I was taking them to the doctor.  Then I called the doctor to make an appointment for them.  It seemed like everyone was acting strange but I couldn't put my finger on it.  Then my daughter called me to her room and said there was something wrong with the TV, that it was showing the same thing on every channel.  I knew then that something bad had happened.  I remember seeing the images and reading the news scrolling on the bottom of the screen that planes had been hijacked and flown into the World Trade Center and that they had both fallen down (I lived on the west coast).  I was just in shock.  I was crying and hysterical and my kids were all upset.  I kept saying that we were at war.  My poor kids, I probably really traumatized them, too.  Everything just felt so surreal and it was like that for months.
What really is bothering me is that tomorrow is a Tuesday and 9/11 happened on a Tuesday, too.  I don't know why that bothers me but it does.
I couldn't take my eyes off the TV for weeks watching the rescue operation.  I was just so sure that there was going to be so many people rescued and as it went on and on and so few were saved I became even more despondent.  I couldn't grasp the hopelessness of the situation.  I was sure there were people waiting to be rescued.  I couldn't believe who complete the devastation was.

Like Tazz, I was an emotional wreck for months afterward.  I was working at NIH and was on lock down for about 12 hours.  I volunteered to go to New York to help with the wounded but unfortunately we weren't needed.  I went to the Pentagon on 9/12 and worked at the Salvation Army tent for 36 hours. I slept on the ground behind the tent after the first 24 because I was exhausted.  We had to go behind the jersey walls whenever they found something suspicious.  During a particularly long episode I fell asleep on the road. I always kind of smile when I get off the freeway by the Pentagon because I remember taking a nap there!

When I was a kid growing up on military bases around the world, I was always told we were vulnerable.  I was also told that nobody would ever be stupid enough to attack us on our own soil.  Because of that the US was always a "safe zone" for me.  9/11 rocked my world in a big way.

I appreciate you being there for us, Tonya. I lost several friends in the Pentagon that day and went to work there in July of 2002. We moved back into the reconstructed area that Sep.
