busy time of year
So everyone is busy but I am missing my morning post so I'll start the morning.
I had my second eye surgery yesterday and although yesterday was rough, I am doing great today. I have done some more of my shopping and now only have incidental stuff to do. Have lots of work stuff to get done. DH is getting better each day. He has more movement in his hand although he still has next to know strength in that hand. At least physically he is better and is walking outside each day and spending more time awake and less sleeping in the recliner.
Everyone is super busy these days with the holidays. What are your tactics to staying on track?
Me, planning, planning, planning and protein, protein, protein. I pack my protein drink with me every time I leave the house. I try to keep a protein bar in my purse for emergencies. I know where every Wendy's is in case I need to eat while I am out. A small chili with cheese is pretty perfect these days.

Hi Price! Glad to hear your eye surgery went well, and you're doing better today. Also - very glad to hear your DH is doing better.
It was 2 Christmas' ago when I discovered I no longer do a major dump on sugar. Up till then I never tested it because I didn't want to know - and that's when I figured my honeymoon was over! I still don't press my luck with it, since I have developed Reactive Hypoglycemia. I used to think the RH was a horrible thing to happen to me, but I can honestly say I believe it has kept me more in line than dumping - and I'd probably have gained more weight back if I didn't have it.
I typically just continue doing what I normally do - stick with protein and veggies. This year I'm doing Weigh****chers with my daughter - just to keep me in line - and it would be nice to drop about 5 lbs. I'm also starting to drink my protein drinks again. I knew in the past they helped curb the hunger cravings I'd get. What's nice with the WW now versus in the past is I fill up a lot faster and one of the Smart Ones meals stuffs me!!

I think RH is a "great" way to stay on track. Hard, but keeps you in line. It is definately when I add in the other stuff besides just protein and veggies that I get into trouble. when DS is home, I feel like I have to cook more and he was home for 5 days over Thanksgiving. Yuck.

I'm doing a food log and planning my meals for the next day. That way I am sure to have the right foods to take for lunch and to cook when I get home from work. Cooked a chicken breast while getting ready for work today and grilled a steak in the dark last night when I got home from work. I seem to need those dense proteins to keep me full.
My exercise plan suffers with all the activities during this season, but am going to try to run at least 2-3 X per week and get to the gym for weights at least 1-2 X a week. That will be my struggle.
I plan pretty early in the day and maybe the day before but never always the day before. I do try to have leftover on hand so I don't have to cook more than 1x a day, supper.
With not being able to exercise after each of my eye surgeries, I am really missing my zumba and muscle pump. will be glad to be back to regular exercise.

Thanks for starting a daily thread this morning, Price. I was busy cleaning up Facebook glitches in a couple of groups I admin for. Anyway, congrats on getting good results on the 2nd eye surgery and for your hubby's recovery. I'm trying to keep my routine going to stay on track. I need to do my online Christmas shopping this week before it gets really crazy at work.

Price, I'm so glad your second eye surgery went good. Also glad DH is doing better.
Staying on track - um - not so good here lately. Seems like since my vacation and the holiday I'm having a harder time. Also been so busy on the weekends that I have not gotten my weekend cooking in. When I'm on track I usually cook something on the weekend that I can eat the entire next week and just fix a plate the night before for work. So far yesterday and today I've eaten out 3 meals - not bad foods but eating out and me just do not work good!! Two of those meals were from Wendy's which I find to be about the perfect place to eat out. I love their chili, they were out yesterday at lunch, but I did get it for supper last night.
I do a lot better when I plan ahead and am not staring at the refrigerator trying to decide what I'm going to have to eat....
Linda
I've always been impressed at your ability to cook on the weekend for the whole week. I like to cook big enough meals so I have some leftovers but I never do that good.
I agree, eating out is a killer. Even if you try to do good, the extra sodium and fat are the devil.
