silly me

My tummy has been sore for a couple of days now.  I thought it was because I changed my mag from 200mg 2x a day to 500mg at night but it wasn't just at night, it was all the time.  I finally realized that I haven't had my prilosec for a week.  I just hadn't called in and gotten my refill thinking that surely at 2 yrs, I could go without.  Well, I bet that is my problem.  I remember feeling the same way when I was about a year out and ran out on a camping trip.  Didn't have what I would call heartburn, but had a very sore tummy.  I'll get it filled tomorrow.  Just a reminder to newbees, that may be one script you will still need.

Hi,

My doctor only gave me 30 day prescription and I have forgotten it twice and thought I was going to die! Sounds like this is something we have to take all the time? It's cheaper for me to buy them over the counter then as a prescription to bad I was to out of it to notice that the first time I got them! Hope you start feeling better now that you realize what the problem is.

I have been on nexium for years. Will that work, or do I need to switch to prilosec?

Nexium works fine for many folks. It's a YMMV (your mileage may vary) thing. Some folks even find they have to take a ****tail of meds, so stay flexible and self-aware.

Your post just reminded me that I forgot my last two days of Prilosec! I went back to teaching this week and everything has been crazy. I'm going to ask my doctor if I can try out another type like Zantac or something. About two months ago he thought I could stop it but boy did I have problems with meat and it lasted a long time so I was back on it. I'm now better and handling some meat in reasonable amounts (about 2-3 ounces) right now. I know the sore tummy feeling.

I dug around and found some generic and took one last night.  I'll do 2 a day for a few days and I bet I am better in no time.  Thanks everyone.

I'm lucky as I don't need to take an antacid. I took it for a month post op coz I told to and it's been over 2 years without any need for it.

good for you.  I guess if it is the only thing I have to take, so be it.

I was on prilosec every morning and zantac every night prior to surgery.  My surgeon gave me a 3 month script for the prilosec and I used it for 2 months post op.  I have been off both now for months and my tummy is A-OK.  Thank you RNY for separation of acid producing section from my esophagus!!  No more GERD yea.  Gerd was the main reason I chose RNY over VSG.

Edited to add- I had a hiatal hernia repaired during my RNY.  I sure that was also a factor in my GERD/reflux.

yeah, RNY cured my gerd, just not this that I guess is acid that doesn't make it up my throat.  I had a hernia repair too with RNY.  Anyway, if prilosec is all it takes, so be it.
