Good Morning. Giving vitamin advice with a license

Lord, save us from new surgery residents giving out vitamin advice. We had an awesome support group last night about labs and vitamins. The dietitian did a great job letting us 6 DSrs and a VBG w/sleeve talk through issues and questions. So much so that we will have part 2 next month because we only had just started talking about minerals after 2 hours of discussing the usual vitamins. lol  Anyway, the gal with the VBG w/sleeve starts telling us about the vitamin advice the new fellow in my surgeon's office gave her.    OMG !  "Stop your iron"..."stop your D".   She was barely in the lower mid range!  The dietitian and I couldn't believe the stuff he's telling people.  She has a meeting with the surgeon today and will address this idiot's advice.  I'm sure much more diplomatically than I would, but good grief!  Something about wearing that white lab coat has gone straight to his empty head.

I think the more people who get WLS the more we're going to hear these stories...

I hope her surgeon takes her seriously and doesn't try to blow her off.  They do think we're all idiots you know...

Wow!  That's frightening!  Makes me very grateful that my surgeon has never done that.  In fact, whenever I've suggested trying additional supplementation or increasing dosages as suggested by other WLS folks he's very receptive to it.  When I told him of my gluten intolerance, he wasted no time documenting it in my records and even said it was something he had never considered... even with me being a "delicate" case.

My surgeon's partner saw me in Oct as part of an ER/hospital stay...let's just say he's CLUELESS with vitamins and nutrition! Good thing I don't listen to him. I listen to the vets who LIVE with it.

Ya know for the past year, my calcuim, D3 and pth were whacky and both, surgeon and PCP had be lowering D3 and Calcuim.  Now I have ostiopenia and didn't even ask them just raised it all back up.  All I need at this point is to break something.  Geeze.

You might want to look at adding some vitamin K2 as well, Price.

My consultant said to not take any and to just see which labs tanked and THEN start to supplement!! :-S

BTW I only went off the B12 for a short while.  I was going to get B12 shots from my PCP, but decided I wanted to be able to maintain them at DSer levels rather than what my PCP believes to be appropriate... so your advice does go in, but sometimes it just needs a little time to soak in ;-)
