No more blood pressure meds!

Dec 11, 2007

12 weeks is the magic number!
This surgery is amazing! I was on 6 prescription medications before surgery, ... for diabetes, cholesterol, high blood pressure, synthetic thyroid and diet pills. I have stopped all except the thyroid. I will have to take this forever. But, I'm NOT complaining!  Lol.

My blood pressure was really high when I came out of the hospital after my DS surgery.  I went from taking 10 mg daily, before my surgery, to taking 20 mg twice a day and it was still high if I ate salty things.
Good news. I have been off all high blood pressure pills for 4 days. And salt no longer matters!

My DMHC case file that I won against Kaiser N. CA.

Letter to help

Dec 05, 2007

Hi,
I have a couple suggestions that might help.
First it sounds like you are not getting enough protein. When you eat enough protein your appetite goes away after three days. The three days are a little tuff, but, doable. Maybe try more protein drinks, if you can, to get more protein.
You also sound like you may be eating or drinking to fast and/or to much. What ever speed you are doing now, cut it in half. You can always speed up again if it isn't working.
I also took a pill to put the good bacteria back in my tummy that the pre-op antibiotics took out. I didn't need to take this as long as I did, because it started to make me nauseous. Now, if I drink milk I have to take one or I get bad gas.
I found hard Cheddar cheese helped me with the nausea. And BBQ potato chips, salty foods. It made me retain water and my blood pressure went up but, I just wanted food that I could eat and keep down. I didn't realize until 6 weeks out that I was supposed to be taking Pepcid AC, twice a day to stop the acid in my stomach. I can't tell you how much that helped with the nausea! Also Gas X four times a day.
I really didn't care the first few weeks what I lost or gained, because I knew it was water from the salty stuff. And just as I figured as I got off the salt, my weight dropped.
As for laying in a bed. I figured this out at the hotel. Take two pillows about the same size and put them side by side, but not touching, long ways (like this =) a little below your head pillow (= l). Then when you lay between the two pillows it supports your stomach and your back. I also put two pillows under my head to raise it some and so my shoulder could fit down between all the pillows I had on the bed.
Well, I hope something I have said will help you. I know what you are going through and it's not fun...Debbie.

29 years with the love of my life

Nov 25, 2007

On the 26th will be my 29th wedding anniversary! If you're lucky, you find the right one and I did!
He has been so good to me and supporting me with my surgery. He even lets me wine and cry and has nothing but positive things to say to me and hugs me and always makes me smile.
He is to good for me, but, I'm not giving him up! And thanks to the DS and no more diabetes, I will be able to have more time to love him.

allergic ...not now!

Nov 19, 2007

I had something happen to me that I cannot explain. Since I was 14 years old I have been allergic to grapes and raisins. In the years that followed I have become allergic to of course wine, cantaloupe, nectarines and preservatives or additives in peanut butter, (not peanuts) and Sulfa drugs. These make me break out in hives that will put me on the ground in a matter of minutes with Anaphylactic shock, (this is when a person has swelling of the throat, like a bee sting).
I bought some SF Ocean Spray White Cranberry Juice and drank it every day, all of the bottle but, maybe 14 oz. I was cutting the label of the bottle and noticed how many ingredients were listed and began to read them. I almost fell over from the shock of the second ingredient...white grape juice!!! That meant there was more grape juice than anything else. I had noticed one hive on my neck for 1 day and that was all!!! I didn't really know what it was. I thought it was maybe a bug bite. Or from all the oil I had been putting on me for the dry skin.
Years before, I had a breakout of hives just from kissing my husband an hour after he had grape jelly and bread. I cannot explain this. I did not take any antihistamine (this stops hives) I have not had any in over 7 months. Is this just one more good result from the DS? I have no idea. But, for 41 years I have been allergic to these things and I have learned the hard way to read labels on any new BBQ sauce and the like to keep from having a reaction. So, up until the DS I was allergic!!!

Well, the nausea is gone! I stopped the Acidophilus and started twice a day with the Wal-mart generic for Pepcid AC, 12 hour and take 4 a day of the Wal-mart generic for Gas X. I also take the Wal-mart generic for Calcium Citrate with D, 630 mg for two pills. I take 1 & 1/2 pills four times a day.
I am still having a time with take eating and drinking. I want to eat and drink to fast! And then I don't feel good. It will get better, if this old dog can learn a new trick that is.
