My main reason for wanting to have this surgery is because I've been overweight all of my life. Even as a teenager in high school I was extremely obese. I have managed since 1999 to drop down from 314 lbs to 266 lbs on my own. But, as you can see it took me a very long time to do so. I am 31 years old and I was diagnosed with adult onset diabetes when I was 21. So, this surgery is a dream for me. I work in a law firm where lots of people have had weight loss surgeries, all have done extremely well so I am confident that I will succeed as well. If anyone would like information on Dr. Jayaseelan or United Healthcare, I would be more than happy to oblige!!!

I started my liquid diet on Friday, April 30. Dr. Jay requires a 7-day liquid diet prior to the surgery. So far, it's been rough!!! Your body begins to crave all sorts of food!! Foods that you've never even thought of in years. But, I am staying strong. I have to constantly visualize myself skinny and not having to take pills for the rest of my life!!!!! I don't have any children nor am I married. Those are two things that I hope to achieve in the near future so I have to stay focused!

I had my surgery and everything went fine. Thank God for anesthesia!!!!! I only remember sliding off of one bed into another. The next thing I knew, they were waking me up. My stomach felt as if I had done too many crunches the day before. It's just a little sort but, I took some pain medication. I'm trying to do the recommended walking to get all of the air out of my stomach, as they suggested. But, for the most part I'm just hungry. The doctor is really big on doing liquids for the first two weeks and gradually working into soft foods. I'm doing my best to stay on course! This is such a great website! I really do appreciate everyone's posts and support.

Well, I am 7 days post-op. I've lost 7 pounds so far. Of course, I gained six pounds the week before surgery????? Go figure because I did the liquid diet (mostly). I'm still sore around my port incision but, I'm told that it will go away with time. I'm doing my liquid diet and it hasn't been too hard considering that my pouch can only hold so much. The only draw back is that the liquid goes through the pouch so fast that your usually hungry again within 30 minutes. I try to keep liquids down though. I drink a Whey Protein drink all day while trying to sip on water at the same time. My two week post-op appointment is 5/20, I will post again with the details of that visit!

Well, I went for my two week visit and was not happy with what the doctor said. He told me that the first six weeks are primarily for healing and not really about weight loss. He was all upbeat when he said, "Don't worry, we'll get ya skinny!" I'm just feeling very discouraged right now because I have no restriction. I've read other peoples pages where they have lost all of this weight in their first month. Doesn't look like I'll be one of those people. I still have my same appetite, my same stomach size (it seems)...no restriction at all and I hate it. I just hope that I can hang in there until my first fill. I just keep thinking about this woman at my job who is four months out and has only lost 5 pounds. God I don't want that to be me!!!!

Well, today I had my first fill! He put me back on a 7 day liquid diet. So far, I don't feel any restraint. I had some soup and was able to eat all of it. I actually don't know what to expect and what not to expect. But, I will adhere to my liquid diet and see what happens. So far, I have lost NOTHING!!!

I went back today for my second fill! The first fill was at 2 cc's and I felt very little restraint. So, he loaded me up and now I'm at 3.5 cc's. That's right, he did a whole 1.5 cc's this time. I'm pretty sure the fact that I've gained weight had something to do with it. Right now, I am on a 24 hour clear liquid diet then I start my 7 day full liquid diet tomorrow. So, we'll see how this goes.......

Ok....I'm at 3.7 cc's and I can barely swallow water!!!! I'm SUPA DUPA TIGHT!!! But, the good news is that I'm finally starting to lose weight....slowly but, it's coming off. I've lost 6 pounds so far.

I'm convinced that I have the most stubborn body in history. The weight is slowly creeping off. It's very reluctant but, it's happening slowly. I am now at 248 pounds. I haven't weighed 240-anything since I was a junior in high school. I just ask that you all keep me in your prayers as I will all of you. This is in no way "The Easy Way Out". It's a constant battle everyday. Food that went down yesterday may not do the same today.

The photo in the yellow shirt is me at 314 lbs. The second photo is me after I'd struggled diet after diet to lose 48 pounds on my own. Hopefully, I will be able to post a newer even slimmer version of myself pretty soon!!
