Week Three

Aug 12, 2007

Yesterday was the fist day I could have cream of wheat, I dreamed about it for a week, something beside clear liquids. After fixing my 1/4 cup I ate one spoon and was stuffed.. My biggest problem so far is reminding myself that it is OK to leave food on my plate, but I do remember to stop eating when I feel full.

I still have not felt hungry, but I try to eat at meal times to stay on track.

Post Op

Aug 08, 2007

12 days post op and I am back to work. I'm not ready to jump through hoops but I feel OK.  I seem to belch a lot and feel bloated.

On the other side

Surgery was not as bad as I thought, but I am glad that it is over. I was dischargec on July 29 2 days after my surgery and so far everything seems to be going OK. I am walking, sipping fluids, passing gas and having stools-YEAH.
Although I was prepared for not being different (size) after surgery I was still a little down.

Counting down

Today was my last day at work only 1 more day to go. My pre op prep was drinking Optifast and liquids for the past week, I thought it would be a very difficult week but I sailed through it with no problems.

My WLS Journey

May 18, 2007

In March 2006 after several months of not being able to walk due to pain in my knees and back, I asked my PCP for a referral for gastric bypass surgery.

I have been fighting a weight problem since my late 20’s and had gained and lost over 100 lbs. in the last 30 years. Now at 56 years old I found myself at my highest weight 269 lbs. I am taking two different medications to control my blood pressure and I have to inject myself twice a day with insulin to control my blood sugar. In the past year I have had several bouts of tendonitis in my knees and my back hurts from walking.

The decision to consider WLS was very hard but I feel that it is something I have to do for my health. Another major surgical procedure does not thrill me nor does the post op diet that I must follow for the rest of my life but I know that this is the only thing that will help me live a somewhat normal and healthy life.
