Appt. with my PCP 7/22/11

Jul 22, 2011

Weight 215.9 I'm up 8 pounds since my January visit.
Blood sugar 115 he's concerned-125 is the danger # for diabetes
Cholesterol- for the 1st time in my life my cholesterol numbers are all UNDER the norm.

What's going on. I have discovered that I don't dump on sugars, still do with fats.
Work- I've been in a new job for almost a year. It's been frustrating, challenging and for the first time in my life I have encountered disciplinary actions. It's been an emotional time. I've gone back to my old habits of using food for comfort.
Menopause- I saw my OB/Gyn in early June and after discussing night sweats, hot flashes and mood swings I was prescribed hormone replacement therapy. HRT is working.
Exercise- I haven't been doing any.
Food- I haven't been tracking, haven't been doing meals only, lots of snacking on the wrong things
Water- I do get in my 2 quarts most days- I'll continue to concentrate on this.

The goals for the next 6 months are:

exercise daily
work on my food issues- track, portions and emotions
see the dietician at EMMC
deal with the work issues.
increased my zoloft prescription

1 1/2 year post op check up

May 29, 2010

I had my year and 1/2 check up with the PA the the "DEN" ( dietary, endocrine, nutrition center) THe visit went well. I found out that I am within 3 pounds of the upper range of my goal weight. I didn't know there was a range. For me the range is 155 t0 188. I weighed 191- darned being weighed in the afternoon! I am wearing size 14's and M's. WHat a difference from skin tight 26W jeans and 3xl's.

My blood work was perfect- I am to keep on doing what I am as far as vitamins- 2 multi vits per day, vit E 3x a week, vit b-12 3x week and my calciums daily.

I have to work on the activity and monitor my foods better.

All said Corrie was pleased. I'm pleased. I LOVE my RNY!

PCP visit June 16

Jun 24, 2009

It was time for a check in with my primary care physician.
He says that I have only one more symptom of metabolic syndrome to peel away and I will have none left!

Gone are:
high blood pressure- today is 122/60
   high blood sugars - normal
   high cholesterol- today is 185

The one to go is my BMI- On his scale I weighed more than on mine. So next time his will have me down so that my BMI is below 30.

6 Month Post op check-up

May 15, 2009

May 5, 2009 I had my 6 month visit with the dietician and Dr. Toder.

The Stats-
Weight- highest 320- now 197
Pants highest 26-28- now 14-16
Tops highest 3XL(26-28) now L or XL
BMI highest 50- now 31

I weigh 197 according to their scales, 193 on mine that morning.  I have lost 77 pounds since the morning of RNY surgery, 53% of my excess weight. Body fat it now 38.1% at 2 weeks post op it was 52.6%. Lean Muscle mass is now 122 pounds, at  2 weeks post op it was 123.5 pounds.

I now can wear size 16 pants, and sometimes a 14. My tops are L and XL. What a change from skin tight 26-28 jeans and 3XL tops. It's time to buy new bras again- Why are the "girls" the 1st to change size? My shoe size is also shrinking. I was wearing 11wide- 11medium fit now.

I feel wonderful. I have incredible energy. My knees don't hurt like they did at 320#. I haven't worn my knee brace for over a month. I haven't had a synvisc injetion (injectible lubricant)  in my knees for 1 year- It was a regular procedure every 4-5 months pre-surgery.

DH and I are enjoying our new bodies, weight loss and healthier selves. It's been wonderful to do this together.

I can see Onderland from here!

Mar 05, 2009

I am at 201 this morning, after "playing around" the 205 range for a few weeks. I was at a stall, loosing /gaining for those 2 weeks. Finally the stall broke and I am loosing again. I took a look at my menus, exercise and made sure that everything was on track. I discovered almonds- which are wonderful, but like other foods "I can eat just 1 serving". Good thing they're not in the house anymore.

I have had no problems after the January emergency surgery. I have vomited once since Jan., after eating too fast and too much. Other than that, I now know what RNY people feel like.

I am having a hard time getting used to my body. DH hears me say "who's legs are those", "this isn't my body" . I have always had heavy legs and thighs. They are slimming down, I have knees I can see! Clothes shopping is FUN! I am between a size 14 and 16 ladies pant and l to xl tops.  I was wearing 26-28 and 3XL.  It's amazing! I can go into consignment shops and Goodwill and actually find clothes!  My dress heels are getting small too! I think my feet have shrunk too!

Intestinal Blockage

Jan 20, 2009

Beginning on Dec 27 our family started having the Chistmas crud. I never got done with it. I continued vomiting for 2 more weeks. It seemed like nothing would stay down, foods or liquids.

Jan 1, 2009  I went to the Emergency Department to be hydrated and found my potassium was low and had a UTI

Jan  6, 2009 I went to the Emergency Dept again to be hydrated

Jan 7  I traveled to EMMC for an endoscopy- no blockage noted.

Jan 12  I had a Cat scan with barium contrast. There is a blockage

Jan 13 I saw Dr. Toder with Cat Scan CD in hand and was scheduled for emergency surgery that day at 3:30. I had what she called a high level, partial blockage. An Intusseseption, a telescoping of the small intestine with pulling of the anastoamosis, which she also disconnected, reconnected using a different stitch.

Jan 15 I was advanced to regular diet. Food stayed down!

Jan 16 I was released from the hospital to home. I will be out of work 1 more week.

6 week post op check

Nov 21, 2008

Nov 18 I went for my 6 week checsk with the dietician and surgeon.
I have lost 29 pounds since surgery, it has all been fat, no lean muscle loss!  Yahoo! My diet has been advanced. I can now have fresh fruit, fresh veggies and some carbs. I am to take my Vit b-12 3 times a week. My next appointment is for a 3 month group at the center in mid-January.

Dr Toder was pleased. I asked her about the type of RNY I had. She says she cuts the stomach away from the pouch between the staple lines. I wasn't sure if it was staples and detached or just stapled. Now I know. She explained her reasons for this, which make sense. She asked how I was after the infusion. I'm fine, eating soft diet and tolerating it. She removed a portion of a suture which was remaining. My next apoointment is at 6 months- I will have blood tests prior and make sure all my numbers are good.

2 weeks to 4 weeks out

Nov 05, 2008

Oct 21, 2008
My 2 week follow visit was today. The surgeon and dietician seemed pleased. My diet was advanced to soft foods. I have lost 9.5 % of my excess weight since surgery. I am anxious to try soft foods after 4 weeks of pre-op and post op liquid protein.

Oct 28
Soft foods are not agreeing with me. I can't keep them down. I phoned my surgeon. I was told that the stomach is still tender and not completely healed. Go back to liquid protein for  5 days and try soft foods that agreed with me.

Nov 3
I am not able to keep any foods or liquids down. Nauseous all the time, no matter what I eat or drink. The Surgeon has ordered rehyration for Nov 4.

Nov 4
DS drove me to Bangor for infusion. I received 2 liters of liquds, nausea IV and vitamins ( a banana bag). I didn't realize how dehydrated I was. Only pee'd one yesterday. Pee'd 3 times during the infusion process. Dinner didn't stay down. Got some sea bands for nausea.

Nov 5
Wore the Sea Bands all day- the drive to work was a challenge. Liquid proteins are staying down along with much more clear liquids. Yahoo!

As of Nov 5 I weigh 246.4,    25 pounds lost since surgery 4 weeks ago.

One Week Post Surgery

Oct 13, 2008

I had surgery on Oct 6, 2008. All went well. Surgery took about 1 1/4 hr. My hospital say was 2 overnights. I returned home on Oct 8th.
I continue on the high protein liquid diet for 2 weeks post op. I am feeling well. During the first week I took naps, drank protein drinks and sipped water. Walking outdoors was nice.  I am able to get most or all of my protein and waters in.  Gas is a slight problem, but I purchased Gas-X strips which helped.
1 week out I weigh 267.5!    3.8 pounds gone!
