I am so very proud of how well my kids have done with their weight loss journey's. My surgery was in March of 2009. My daughter had her surgery in May of 2010 and my two sons had their surgery December 2010. Together, we have lost a total of 650 pounds!!
In the summer of last year we did a commercial for Hurley Bariatric Center where we all had our surgery. I am so thankful for Hurley and what they have done for my family. some of the photos are on my profile of the day we shot the commercial.
I can't say the road has always been easy, but it is such a blessing to go through this as a family and be able to support each other. I am most excited for my kids. Seeing them live life and enjoy things they missed out on doing when they were morbidly obese makes me so happy!

Wow....what a difference a year makes! I haven't updated in a while, but after all that has gone on this year I can't help but sit back and reflet what a wonderful year it has been!
A year ago in May all three of my children were morbidly obese. My daughter Katie was scheduled for RNY surgery May 10, 2010. My son Chris was scheduled for jaw surgery June 2010 and hoping to be approved for RNY surgery and have it on his winter break from college in Dec 2010. My middle son Mike, hadn't even considered WLS yet!
Katie's surgery went well and she has been VERY successful in her weight loss journey. She has lost almost 125 lbs and is very close to her goal weight. Chris's jaw surgery ended up being a complete disappointment. He was put to sleep in the OR and they could not get the breathing tubes down his nose, so the surgery was cancelled.....one he had prepared months for!! He was devastated. He had a deviated septum surgery in July, but had to postpone the jaw surgery until May 2011 (just had it Tuesday!) because he was heading off to college.
In the meantime, Chris was approved for bariatric surgery, but needed to put it on 'hold' until his winter break because he was starting his freshman year in college. At the same time, Mike came to me and told me he wanted to go through the surgery also! So we started him on the process of getting approved and he was approved in time so that both of the boys could have their surgery the same day (Dec 13, 2010) on their college winter breaks.
The have been VERY successful in their weight losss and they are each down almost 130 lbs in 5 months!! I am so happy for my kids and them being able to enjoy life now with their healthier bodies!
Oh - and I got married in August :-) What a year it has been!!!!

I submitted my paperwork to Hurley Bariatric Center last week who in turn submitted it to Aetna. Waiting for approval is driving me nuts!!!!!!! I just want to hear "You have been approved" !

Dec 26, 2008 - I have been going through this process since 9/29. I went to three different WLS seminars in September and finally made my appointment with my family physician to start the 6 month dieting documentation. I have Aetna Insurance and they also have a 3 month 'multidisciplinary pre-surgery regimen'. I am hoping to qualify for that.
My surgeon's staff submitted my information to Aetna and I was denied. I need to finish the 3 month or 6 month pre surguery documentation with my doctor. The 3 months needs to be 90 days and the 6 months needs to be 180 days as explained by the Aetna representative. So now I have to wait until after Jan 12th to appeal the decision after seeing my dietician one more time and my physician another couple of times.
I am praying every day that my surgery gets approved!!!!
