For today -- things are coming up ROSES!

May 07, 2010

Well, I called UHC on Tuesday to find out why they hadn't called me back like they said they would.  After talking to a "lovely lady" and quite frankly verbally abusing her a little bit - I asked to speak with her supervisor.  A lovely lady named Rochelle came on as "The Supervisor".   I again explained how long I have been waiting AND the fact that my coverage for UW would indeed come to a REAL end June 30th.  So, even if they pushed this whole thing through today, surgery probably wouldn't happen until sometime in June.  That would mean having to have follow-up with a different provider.  Call me crazy, but for the six months following a major surgery -- I would like to have followup visits with the actual surgeon that did the surgery.  Rochelle listened intently and told me that it seemed that my second appeal was "dropped" for no real reason by was re-activated on the 26th.  She said she would look into something and get back to me in a few hours.  I laughed at her and informed her that her staff say they will call me back but they never do.  ROCHELLE GAVE ME HER DIRECT LINE # !!!!!!!
Rocelle, did call me back at the end of the day stating that she was still working on this, had a couple emails "out there" waiting for replys and that she would get back in touch with me when she heard back on the emails.
Then, today - Rochelle called me AGAIN!  This time she informed me that she was working on getting approval for LONGER coverage for me with UW if I decided to have the surgery there.  She also had the appeals dept. put a "rush" on the decision. SO cool!  I also reviewed with her that I have already begun the process all over with Dean/St. Mary's and I might possibly be willing to have the surgery there IF they could push the approval process through for me.  She said she would advise the "TEAM" of that as well.  So, after 5 months it looks like there is some forward progress.
THEN, just as I thought I was having a good day - I got a call from Dean/St, Marys and they have recieved a copy of my case notes from the nutritionist at UW.  This means that I probably will NOT have to go through the whole 6 month supervised diet thing at Dean.  I will find out more when I go for my appts. this week (hopefully).
So many weeks of depressing, No NEWS crap.  I finally can have a little more upbeat outlook and I am thinking that there might a chance of having surgery (One way or the other) this summer.  Is it too much to think it might happen before the 4th of July?  LOL    I remember a point in time that I thought it might happen before CHRISTMAS of last year,  WOW talk about being totally screwed over by a health insurance provider! Oh well.... life goes on.
