Less Than 24 Hours To Go!!

Aug 09, 2010

I will be in surgery by this time tomorrow morning.  I just have a few more things to do today to get ready.   I am ready to get  the surgery over and get back home and on to the  "new" me!
I am not too nervous about the surgery.  My only fear is  what it would do to my husband and children,  if something goes wrong.  I love them all so much!  I  hope I am not being too selfish by having this surgery.  And I hope that things go well and I end up being a better wife and mother after the weight comes off.  I am looking forward to the journey ahead.
Well, before I really start rambling, I better go.  Need to finish packing the kids backpacks and my own bag too.  Wish me luck!  :0)

Pre-surg testing complete

Aug 06, 2010

Well, I made it through all the pre-surgery testing today and meetings today.  First up, labwork.  Then I was off to have my gallbladder, liver, pancreas, spleen, and bladder scan.  The results were good.  I have a fatty liver, imagine that! LOL  But everything else looks great...so I get to keep my gallbladder.  Hopefully, the Actigall will do it's job and I won't need to have my gallbladder removed down the line.
After that was complete, I went back to the surgeons office to talk with the nurse, the P.A., and the nutritionist.  Those meetings all went well.  Then I got to meet my surgeon.  He seems very professional and experienced.  So feel like I will be in good hands with him.  After that I was off to get an ecg, piece of cake!!  Heart checked out completely normal.  Yay!  Then, I was off to yet another office within the hospital to get a chest x-ray.   And finally last, but certainly not least, I headed to the anesthesiologist.
So everything is good....still following the liquid diet.  Now I just sit back and wait for the big day!!!

First day of pre-surgery liquid diet

Aug 03, 2010

Today I started my liquid diet.  Hmmm...hoping I am doing it correctly.  Let's see what have I had today...
Breakfast:
  light yogurt
Snack: skim milk
Lunch: cream of broccoli soup (campbell's soup at hand)
Snack: skim milk
Dinner: cream of mushroom soup with a little mashed potato mixed in, tuna pureed with a little broth, and 1/2 cup of low sodium v8 juice, for dessert a low cal, sugar free pudding.
Snack: skim milk

I won't lie..it was hard watching the rest of the family eating chili and corn bread muffins!  But I am not feeling hungry now.  I got in all my water today.  And tomorrow I am planning on having some Crystal Light at some point during the day.  And since I am not sure if the pudding was on the approved list, I will probably have sf Jello instead for dessert.  But the pudding was calling my name tonight. :0)

Well, tomorrow I will be one week away from surgery.  I am still very excited.  But today it became more of a reality to me that it's really going to happen.

I will update again after my pre-surgery workup appointments on Friday.

Gonna keep my scale afterall :0)

Jul 21, 2010

July 21, 2010~

Well, I have been on a plateau.  Starting to get discouraged, fighting the desire to go back to bad habits.  But yes, finally, today the scale moved down...THREE more pounds.  I'm now down 28 pounds.  Not much longer until surgery and I have a personal target that I am trying to get to beforehand.  My surgical team was happy with the 16 pounds I lost and said to keep at it..but they weren't too concerned with my losing a certain amount...just that I lose and not gain before surgery.

I ate my ribeye and loaded baked potato for dinner on Monday night.  And last night had pork loin, green beans, and fresh raspberries.  Am really shocked to see a three pound loss today.   The ribeye was what I really wanted to have before I have surgery.  So that was my special treat for getting my surgery date set.  It won't be that much longer until I start the liquid diet phase.  I am not planning on any other "last" meal splurges.  But I reserve the right to change my mind between now and Aug 3rd.  :0)

Today is my 14th wedding anniversary... been with my hubby for 19 years in October.  I am thinking next year we should do something out of the ordinary...maybe a little weekend getaway or some other special treat just for us.

The Big Day is 8/11/10

Jul 20, 2010

July 20, 2010~

Well, yesterday I was able to schedule my surgery.  First, they told me that my surgeon is out until Sept. and the first available surgery with him is now mid-Sept.
In fact the very week that my kids start their enrichment classes with our hsap.  That just didn't work with our schedule.  And I am anxious to get this down so that I can recover and be ready to teach, as I home school all four kids.
So, the nurse suggested that I could have my surgery with Dr. Samuel's partner.  I am scheduled to meet my new surgeon on the 6th.  And am waiting for them to call me with the pre-op appt. for the gallbladder scan and such.  Also, I  start the liquid phase of my diet on August 3rd.

Getting closer to a date....I hope.

Jul 14, 2010

7/14/10

Well, I now have confirmation that my paperwork is indeed in the system at my insurer.  Apparently, it is currently pending nurse review.  So, hopefully, not much longer for approval and then a surgery date.  It seems like it's taking forever....although in reality it's not.  Really wanting to get this scheduled before the kids start their classes this Fall.

I have been overweight all my life.  Finally, I have made the decision to have RNY.  I am currently waiting for insurance approval.  Hoping to have surgery within the next month or two.
