101 Pounds LOST!

Nov 19, 2007

Today is Monday which is my weekly weigh-in day.  I had a real rough time last week with carbs.  I was stress eating...no excuse, I know.  Well, when I got on the scale today I weighed 231.25 which equals a grand total loss of 101.75 pounds!  I am very happy and to be honest, proud of myself because I know that I have a tool to help me, but I also know that I lost 45 of it before surgery and that I work my butt off in the gym most days of the week!  Today is a good day.

Yesterday was not such a good day, I had to fly Ethan to Atlanta to see his dad for 30 days.  I didn't cry this time, but I really wanted to.  When I woke up today I just kept saying 29 more days....  He is such a sweet little boy and I don't like being away from him.

Three Month Post-Op Report

Nov 06, 2007

11-6-07  Today I am three months out from my RNY surgery and have lost 52 pounds.  My total loss with the diet before surgery is 97 pounds...WOO HOO!  I'm almost to 100 pounds and when I reach that goal I'm going to celebrate...I'm not sure yet how, but you better believe that I'm going to do something cool!  I have been wanting a new silver cross necklace, so I may just buy myself that as a congratulations to me present!    I was at the gym today on the eliptical and am up to 35 minutes a day alternating the resistance between 2 and 3 every minute.  My total strides were 4478 and total calories burned were 560,  which set a personal record for me.  I want to record that here so I can compare it to a few months from now and see some improvement!  I've started on the weights and have learned that I have NO upper body strength so I've been working on that quite a bit and was up 5 pounds on the curls today..woo hoo!  A lady there named Beth invited me to some of the yoga and pilates classes and I want to go, but am nervous.  I will make it to a class soon and will report how it goes.  I think a change from my usual routine would really be good for me as I have hit a stall.  Of course the stall couldn't wait 3 more pounds...it had to hit right now.  That's ok though because I'm going to plow right through it!

Baby Jackson is doing good and is up to 3 pounds, 3 oz as of today.  He's on milk again and thriving well.  I haven't even see this little guy in person but he's on my mind so much of the time.  My kids are all doing good.  Corbett was sick today so I took him to the doctor.  Thursday is his last football game of the season and we have to get him well so he can play.  He's already feeling much better!  Jordan is just Jordan going to dance class and having lots of fun with it.    Ethan is totally into learning and asks a question about every 10 seconds...very cute!    He goes to Georgia to visit his dad in less than 2 weeks for a one month visit.  I'm doing a lot better about it this time.  Maybe it's because he will be home with me for Christmas this year.  Well, I told you how I'm doing...how are you doing?

2 Months Post Op

Oct 08, 2007

I have lost 83.25 pounds since the beginning of my journey in March.  I met a personal goal today which was to be able to get on the scale (I have a doctor's scale at work) and be able to slide the big weight down a notch.  I made it by 1/4 of a pound and weigh 249.75!!  WOO HOO!   Todays waist, hip and neck measurements show a loss of 21.75 inches since March.  I am very thankful for this tool, now if I can just learn to slow down when I eat so food will quit getting stuck!  ACK!!

I received an email update today on baby Jackson.  He was able to tolerate milk yesterday, which is a wonderful milestone.    I went to the hospital on Saturday and although I didn't get to see him, I was able to talk to Matt and Emily for a while.  After all they have been through, they look good and their faith is strong.  I have learned so much from them and have true admiration for them as parents.

Riley Owen Moring

Sep 27, 2007

9-27-2007  My cousin and his wife were pregnant after doctors told them they would never have a child of their own.  Through God, Emily became pregnant with twins who were delivered at only 25 weeks gestation.  They were named Jackson and Riley.  From the beginning, Riley was not doing good and lived only 6 days before dying in his mother's arms last Friday night.  He was only 1 pound, 1 ouce and 12 inches long.  I love my cousins, but am not as close to them as I should be.  However, the death of Riley has torn me up so bad, I can only imagine the pain that Matt and Emily are going through.  The funeral was day before yesterday and I almost cried out loud when I saw the two foot long casket set on a table by the pulpit of the church.  My aunt and uncle were sitting on the front row, so I went up to see them before the funeral started.  The casket was so pretty and wrapped in blue gingham material.  The pastor who did the service kept calling Riley 'a 6 day miracle' and I believe he was right.  The congregation sang several songs and the last was 'Jesus Loves Me' which was very appropriate.  Emily and Matt wrote a letter that was read at the end of the service.  They kept urging the people not to turn away from God in anger over Riley's death, but instead draw closer to Him that Riley was able to give his parents 6 blessed days.  Their faith is amazing and I have learned so much from them.  After the people in attendance were dimissed, the casket was opened for the family and there layed baby Riley.  My aunt Carol was the first to the casket and I followed behind her, what a small perfect little baby.  He was so incredibly tiny and although he was so very premature and not developed like other babies, he was absolutely beautiful.  I never got to see Riley when he was alive, but I will never forget him.

The gym

Sep 16, 2007

9-16-07  Today was my first day back at the gym since getting pneumonia at the end of April.  I've been walking 2 miles 3-4 times per week, but that is nothing compared to the eliptical machine!!   I think I did pretty good... 25 minutes with the course set on what looked like a mountain...part of it getting harder and then half way it was easier.  My husband was sweet and brought me my water bottle twice.  I wanted to just chug it, but was afraid of throwing it up all over the place.  The best part is I burned 287.9 calories.  Woo hoo!

One Month Surgi-versary

Sep 05, 2007

9-6-07  Today I am one month out from my gastric bypass surgery.  I've lost 21.75 pounds since surgery and a grand total of 66.25 pounds overall.  I have found that I really enjoy walking at the city park.  The walking trail is 1.15 miles long and half of it is in the sunshine and the other half winds along the river.  I like the river side better because of all the trees and nature stuff.  I've been walking around the trail 2 times and am clocking a little over a 17 minute mile.  Now that I'm a month out, I can start doing exercises with weights, so I will start going back to the gym soon.

275 pounds

Aug 26, 2007

8-27-07  Today I weigh 275 pounds so that is a total loss of 58 pounds.  I thought I would have lost more weight by now since I'm still in my first month.  Many people have told me that my weight loss is slower than others because I lost 46 pounds pre-op.  I don't know if that is true or not, but to be honest, I'm somewhat sad about it.  I ate over 1000 calories yesterday and that worries me too.  I'm so afraid my pouch is already stretched or the connection between the pouch and intestine is stretched.  I'm not walking...so that is probably part of the problem too.

My first POST OP post

Aug 13, 2007

8-13-07  My WLS was one week ago and I'm back at work today sitting at my desk as I write this.  I'm feeling pretty good, just ready to get rid of the drain...the tape is wrecking my skin.  Tommy is taking me to see Dr. Kim Wednesday to have the drain out and staples removed.  That will be so nice!  My hospital stay was good...everyone was nice and so helpful.  I had several people from OH come to visit...Vivian, Laura, Nancy, Gaye.  That made me happy since Tommy wasn't able to be up there due to work.  I weighed the morning of surgery at the hospital and weighed 288.  Today I weigh 280 and when you add it all up together, I've lost 53 pounds!  Woo hoo!  I'm tired now, so I'm gonna go.  Tootles!

Reality Check!

Aug 01, 2007

8-2-07  Surgery is only 4 days away...4 days!  I'm feeling good, no problems so I think it's really gonna happen this time.  My liquid diet is going good after a rocky first couple of days.    In fact, I'm not even drinking 4 shakes a day, only 3.  Monday it was only 1 shake for the day.  I think I'm over my carb withdrawl and cruising along great.  Today  I weighed and the scale said 291.5 so I plugged that into the BMI calculator and it said my BMI is exactly 50.0.  I started out at 57.5 so that makes me happy.    I want so bad to be under 50 on surgery day and I think maybe it will happen because is the beginning of that time of the month, so I should lose another pound or two of water weight by Monday.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed!  Dr. Kim has patients sign a release to do a gastric sleeve in case the RNY is too difficult if a patient's BMI is over 50, so  maybe now I won't have to sign that paper!  WOO HOO!

Personal life...well...it is good.  I gave the car I inherited from my great aunt to my step-daughter, Kristin.  She is 19 and just got her driver's license this week.  My other step-kids went home last night after their month long summer visit with us.  Now it will be back to seeing them every other weekend.  I love them, but it was time for them to go home...they are the messiest kids I've ever met which drives me batty!  Jordan is going to Sea World tomorrow for the weekend with my her friend.  She is so happy about it.  Corbett, well...we were up until 3 AM this morning having it out about everything under the sun.  I don't know what to do with him to make him understand that rules are rules and he is no exception.  He stays in trouble so much of the time because he pushes and pushes.  Ethan's 4th birthday was Tuesday and he had a really nice day.    We went to the water park on Sunday and then yesterday we had spaghetti for supper since it's his favorite food...I had Optifast...and he had a really cool cupcake cake.  All the cupcakes were pushed tightly together and the top was iced like a big huge cake.  He's into Spiderman right now, so everything went along with that theme.  I took him and Jordan to the park last night.  He cracked me up because  he would go down the slide and hit the ground running yelling, "Run!  Run for your lives!!" and then run all around the playground.    It was hysterical.  I know I will enjoy the park more when I lose weight.  That makes me smile too.
