checking in

May 16, 2011

Last weekend I ran my first race.  It was a 5K.  I surprised myself when I placed first in my division with a time of 24:02!  WooHoo.  I know for a fact that I would have never been able to accomplish that w/o my WLS.  I still feel amazing at 18 months out and I hope I continue to feel amazing : )

tummy tuck : )

Jan 05, 2011

Well I've reached the next part of my journey....hanging skin.  Last week I had a tummy tuck and my insurance company paid for it.  I again have to remind myself how lucky I truly am.  I feel great and am really happy with my results.  When I look at myself in the mirror I can't even believe it's me....me with a flat tummy....I never imagined I would see that. Can't wait to get back in the gym and run without a flapping tummy : )  I'm also really hopeful that this will finally put an end to the sharp shooting pains I get in my spine.

Goal Reached

Jul 12, 2010

Wow I never imagined that I would loose all my weight and here I am.  It feels great.  I was carrying around 100 extra pounds for 10 years.  Now that I have lost 100 pounds I can't believe how much energy I have and how wonderful it feels.  This surgery has given me back my life.  I am excited about life again.  I hope to always love exercising as much as I do now and I also hope to never take this opportunity for a better life for granted.

You cannot have it both ways!

Dec 16, 2009

"You cannot have it both ways."  -- Anonymous   How's that for short and meaningful?   You cannot lose weight...if you continually overindulge. You cannot become physically fit...if you are completely inactive. You cannot expect success...if you don't follow the program. You cannot know how much you are eating...if you don't track your food. You cannot finish your weight loss journey...if you don't ever get it started. You cannot improve your health...if you don't choose to eat some healthy foods. You cannot follow your plan...if you haven't bothered to make one. You cannot maintain your weight loss...if you return to old behaviors. You cannot find victory...if you always find excuses.

Normal Cholesterol levels!

Dec 03, 2009

My cholesterol levels have worried me for years.  I have hypertriglyceridemia, so my triglyceride levels were always really high.  When I wasn't taking medicine for it they were over 800!  I always felt that this alone would end my life prematurely.  Many in my family died from heart disease, I figured that was my fate too.  Well what a happy day it was to get a letter in the mail with my most recent cholesterol results.  When I saw the letter  I immediately knew it was good news because I didn't receive a call from my PCP.  I had always received my lab results via telephone in the past.  All my levels were absolutely perfect!  Total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, and even my triglyceride levels!  Ever since my fist cholesterol test when I was 18 they have been really bad....this is so amazing!  I can't believe that it happened so fast!  I am writing this because I want to remember what a good feeling it is to have hope for my future.  I never want to take this opportunity for a healthier life for granted.

Almost 1 week post op

Oct 11, 2009

Just wanted to say that I am amazed at how well I feel just 6 days after RNY.  I have energy, am able to drink my required fluids, walk all the time, lose 2 pounds in my sleep.  I am so thankful for this life changing surgery.

Home Sweet Home

Oct 07, 2009

I'm home from the hospital.  There's no place like home for feeling better.  I feel great now that I am not on the I.V. medications anymore, they really made me too groggy.  The pain isn't bad at all.  The only complication I've had so far is my heart rate is high and my blood pressure is high.  The doctors ruled out anything serious and told me that sometimes the adrenals are hyper stimulated as a reaction to the surgery and they produce too much adrenaline.  Hopefully it just goes away soon.  I really am feeling good though and I have no problem drinking my water or protein shakes.  Here's to a new and improved life : )

surgery coming up

Sep 22, 2009

I am very, very nervous because my RNY is in less than two weeks!  My nerves almost got the best of me and I came close to changing my mind about gastric bypass.  Then I realized that these feelings are probably pretty normal and I just needed to be strong and work through them.  I also read your comments on obersityhelp in reguards to the questiuon "Do you regret your gastric bypass" and I realized that I am doing this to have a better life.  The most common regret from people was not doing it sooner...what a relief.  So wish me luck!
