I have been overweight since I was three years old.  At nine, I was diagnosed with high blood pressure, put on meds and lost 70 pounds in three months.  I have been fighting obesity forever.  In 1984 I was diagnosed with hyperthyroid and given radio active iodine, which killed my thyroid.  After that my weight shot up and up, until I reached my all-time high of 336.  Right niw I am hovering about 320 or so.  That's about 200 where I should be!

I have been struggling with knee problems for about three months.  I went to my primary doctor, who sent me to an orthopedic surgeon.  He has two concerns: my weight and my age.  I am WAY too young for a knee replacement and my weight is contributing to the constant pain and swelling.  He is pro-bariatric so he sent me back to my doctor for an aggressive weight loss plan.

I went to Borgess Hospital on Sept. 13 for a free seminar.  I also had a friend telll me about Piatek Instutite in Indy that deals mainly with drugs for weight loss.  I was impressed listening to him because it was like he knew me!

When I went back to my primary doctor I was armed to the hilt with info on wieght loss.  We looked over my BMI, the insurance criteria, the options together.  He said we could try the medical thing again but we know that didn't work in the past.  I am going to recommend surgery.  He is to send off his recommendation to the insurance company by Monday.

Now I will just need to wait and see....approval or not!
