I'm impressed

Mar 25, 2009

I'm impressed how quickly and easily I've recovered from the surgery.  It really was no big deal at all!

In fact, I am preparing my house for sale.  With the shedding of pounds, I am also shedding other clutter in my life.  This surgery has renewed my sense of hope.  I had been recovering from the grief of losing my son's father and various other life challenges.

As my health improves, I have more physical and mental strength and energy to deal with the issues in my life.  Thank you, lap band!

I did face my first temptations last week.  I ate some chips!  The result was I gained a couple pounds.  I was scared that I had completely botched everything and I was bound to keep gaining, like I have in every other diet I've attempted.  I realized my wrong-thinking.Thankfully, I am back on track and have continued losing.  I'm down 45 lbs, including the pre-op Opti-Fast diet.  I find that I crave protein and rarely ever eat carbs anymore (which I craved pre-surgery).  I need to learn more interesting ways to get in the protein as I am growing tired of tuna and chicken.

Sometimes I am envious of the bypassers who seem to lose so much more quickly, but I know that I made the right choice for me.  There is no way I could have taken the time required to heal from more invasive surgery, since I am a single Mom and have no family support.

I had my first fill.  The doctor couldn't find my port for over half an hour!  Just as he was about to give up and make an appt to do the fill with the aid of xray, he found it!  Other than the poking and prodding, it didn't hurt at all.  I could feel the saline entering the band, which is interesting.  He gave me 1 cc.    For the first few days, I had several "sticks" when food got stuck in what feels like my throat.   I also had my first "productive burp" (so I was educated by a fellow OH'er) where the food actually is regurgitated.  Both the "sticks" and the "PBs" cause panic attacks.  They are quite awful.  As a result, I've learned to chew, chew, chew to avoid these nasty effects.

The people I have met here on OH have provided me with some wonderful support, even if its just sharing our stories and chatting online.  Thank you so much!

Back to decluttering and cleaning the house - something I've needed to do for a long time!

Peace.

1 week post- surgery

Feb 11, 2009

Wow!  Today I went for my 1 week post-op appt with my surgeon.  I have dropped nearly 30 pounds since I started the Optifast diet!  I feel great, well except for being weak and tired, which is normal post-op.  I'm very impressed with everything so far.  Will write more when I have more energy.

Jan. 25/09 Day 6 of Optifast Diet

Jan 25, 2009

I started the Optifast diet on Tuesday Jan 20, 2009.  It is easier now that I am accustomed to it but the first few days were harder than I expected.  It is just my son and I at home so I still need to grocery shop and cook for him.  As well as the Optifast, I'm eating lettuce, arugula, celery and onions with a little malt or balsamic vinegar.  I've lost 8 lbs.  At this rate I should lose the expected 15 lbs pre-op.

Lap-Band surgery is Feb 3.

I went swimming today and it felt so good to move.  Moving out of the pool is too painful.  I want to go bike riding with my son this summer, something I haven't been able to do for a few years now.

I'm so happy that I've been contacted here by someone else who is having the same surgery as me by the same clinic around the same time.  It's great having someone to share this with.

A gf of mine was banded 3 years ago and is very pleased.  She doesn't have the fill as tight as normal because she likes to eat, but she still lost 80 lbs.  She just eats smaller portions and nutritious food.

I have no doubts at all that this is the right choice for me.  I feel it and it's wonderful.

Just wish it would warm up a little.  So cold!
