Weight Loss Surgical Center of Baton Rouge Bariatric Center

I had my first consultation with Dr Hargroder and my first impression was that I liked him. I of course had read the thoughts of others who have used him on this site so I had some idea of what to expect. He is a very intelligient, well-spoken and knowledgeable surgeon. He answered all of my questions with clear concise and easy to understand answers. What I liked most about him is that he was very down to earth and I got the impression that he is very entuned to the needs of his patients. He addressed all of the risks of the surgery and emphasized the role the patient plays in how succesful the outcome of the surgery will be.
He does have a structured aftercare program that used to go up to 24 months, but now goes five years out. I will give more details after my procedure is done.

So far I have attened a simenar that he insist all new patient to attend. He went over the procedures he does.He gave the pros and cons of each sugery. The simenar was very very informative. He has done bariatric surgery exclusively for 3 yrs.I feel better knowing he takes this field of sugery very seriously.I will have my first one on one 4/19/05.He has alredy mentioned the importance of after care and support groups.SO far I have felt very comfortable with him.He also did not downplay the risk of sugery. He was also recommened by a friend. She has stated that she had a very positive experience overall. Will let you know more soon.

Before my surgery I did hours and hours of research on Dr. Hargroder and his patients. What I found was very impressive, in the years he has been performing obesity surgery he has never lost a patient. He was everything everyone described... He walked in the room wearing scrubs and cowboy boots, he was very open and honest and really listened to what my husband and I had to say. My opinion of him today is the same as before my surgery, I recommend him to everyone. Dr. Hargroder's office staff is wonderful, they are so warm and caring that they make you feel at home. His surgical nurse Karen is awesome, she is the best. You ask the question do I have anything negative to say, the answer is NO. There honestly was not one single thing that was negative about Dr. Hargroder, his office staff, the hospital staff or my stay at RiverWest Medical Center. Everyone went above and beyond to make me comfortable.

I had "known or" Dr. Hargroder before the surgery. I used to work a BCBS of LA where he was a provider that we dealt with. I had also heard that he was a great DR.
Dr. Hargroder's PA (Holly) is great. She was right there when I went in for surgery and I have seen her since in follow up care.
Dr. Hargroder does have a structured aftercare program and a very lengthy list of things to do and not to do, also things to eat and not eat.
Dr. Hargroder and Dr. E. Melancon addressed the risks of the surgery, but I had confidence in him not to worry about the surgery at the time. I worried after surgery just like a lot of people do with blood clots etc.
Dr. Hargroder is a real character, he wears cowboy boots everywhere, even during surgery, I rate him top notch and his surgical competence and bedside manner are A-One.

I already knew Dr. Hargroder because I am a nurse at one of the hospitals he has practiced at for many years. I knew him to be an experienced surgeon who has vast experience in laproscopic surgery. He is compassionate and friendly. His aftercare program is great. He does regular checkups which are included in the initial/surgery fee. There are support group meetings weekly at NeWeigh. I rate him a 10!

Excellent!! Dr. hargroder deeply impressed me with his caring attitude. He honestly made me feel like a real person instead of a piece of meat.
It only got better!! the explanations he gave were wonderful, he took so much time to answer my questions and allay any fears I had.
No words are good enough!! The support staff was amazing!! even the nurses when they grumbled at me for not walking enugh after surgery! The after care was super, being from Texas I had a toll free number that was answered 24 hours a day and it never took very long to get a reply.
I can't think of anything I dislike about Dr. H.
Dr. H is a very caring man. he is intensely concerned about making you comfortable and making sure you have all the answers you need.
He is very strong on aftercare.
He does have an aftercare program but I was allowed to do mine with my primary physician under his guidance due to living so far away although he did ask me to come back at the 4 month point for a general check up.
Dr. H is very honest about the risks associated and makes sure you understand what you are facing.
I would rate Dr. hargroder as a 12 on a scale of 1 to 10. Both he and his staff went above and beyond to make sure I was taken care of.
His bedside manner is awesome and his surgical skills seem to be very impressive, I had a LAP Roux N Y and was up[ walking in 24 hours and made a full recovery within 2 weeks.

Very Nice Doctor with a great bedside manner.
Nursing Staff was very helpful and compassionate.
Nothing I didn't like about him.
Very strict about aftercare. Must attend support group meetings and for the first two months I have to see dr every two weeks.
Both surgical competence and bedside manner were great.

Dr Hargroder was great and so where the staff! I would recommend him highly! I am thanful that I had the chance to have this surgery. It has been 2 years and 4 months since I had the surgery and I have had no major complications to date. I have been struggling with anemia but I have been taken a product called Chorella that has help! I would not hesitate to suggest or recommend the surgery or surgeon to someone!
