Dr. Baranov and his staff were amazing and extremely supportive, before, day of and after surgery. Have now completed the 1st year and they continue to be there for any of my needs. Best gift anyone could give themselves.

It is my pleasure to review Dr. Baranov and his staff.  I had the sleeve surgery two days ago (11-13-2017) at Saratoga Hospital and was pleasantly surprised by the lack of pain the day of and night of the procedure.  The only discomfort was a very dry mouth and sore throat due to intubation, but they both went away after a few hours.  The little pain I did have, upon release from the hospital, was well taken care of by Tylenol.

My starting weight was 276, and I am hopeful of losing at least 100 pounds.  I've been too heavy most of my life, but especially so the past ten years.  I have wanted this surgery during that time, but my insurance (Medicare) did not pay until a year or so ago.  I live in southwestern Vermont, near Bennington, and although our local hospital has a plethora of excellent services, they do not offer bariatric surgery.  Thus I began to search the internet for a good doctor.  At first, I chose Dr. Baranov due to his location.  I haven't a car and my friend (Donna) was going to be driving me.  She and her husband had previously lived in Saratoga Springs so she knew the area.  I chose Dr. Baranov due to location, but then afterward I couldn't imagine having chosen a better surgeon ANYWHERE!

Dr. Baranov IS very serious, as well he should be.  He will be holding your life in his hands.  My surgery was delayed this past year on two occasions due to family issues, and that of my primary care doctor refusing to sign approval for my having the procedure.  I had to fire her and find another.  Thankfully I found an excellent PCP nearby who was truly in favor of my taking this big step.  She knew how it could change my life.  She was supportive of this investment in my future.  Even more so, Dr. Baranov was/is too.  I only stayed in the hospital overnight and the next morning he came to see me about 7:30, then again that afternoon about 4:30.  During the latter conversation, it was good to see the doctor smile and laugh - I had said how very pleased I was, and that he and his staff were just the best.

I had a vertical sleeve gastrectomy on 10/30/2017 with Dr. Baranov. The experience so far has been much less painful than I expected. Dr Baranov is straight and to the point. He makes sure you are knowledgeable of everything that will occur throughout the process and even called me on Sunday night to see how I was doing. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking to change their life physically.

Are you morbidly obese and looking to have gastric bypass surgery? Has your research confused or discouraged you? Do you know other people who have had the procedure and have been unsuccessful long-term? Well, that was my state of mind BEFORE my Primary Care physician, Dr. Susan Muller, referred me to Dr. Dmitri Baranov, of the Saratoga Bariatric Surgery and Weight-Loss Program.

The first step was to attend an informational session, followed by a Q & A given by Dr. Baranov himself! Pre-received misinformation was replaced with scientific fact. I found Dr. Baranov to be a skilled communicator who is easily understood, credible, and entertaining too! Throughout the following months, you meet his staff, who too, conduct themselves with professional excellence. You are informed every step of the way, encouraged, and given tools to help you successfully lose weight long-term. Some of these tools include a monthly support group, a YMCA evaluation, nutrition consults, a psych eval, and monthly visits with a RN.

Dr. Baranov performed my Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass surgery on Oct. 02, 2017 at Saratoga Hospital. During my 33 hour stay, I personally saw Dr. Baranov 4 times! Once before surgery, once after recovery, and twice on the day after my surgery. He personally insures that you understand your instructions and what to expect. He personally calls his patients at home, in my case 6 days after my surgery, to see how you're doing, and is always pleased to answer YOUR question(s), even though he has most probably answered the same question thousands of times!

In conclusion, I believe that long-term success after having gastric bypass surgery is FIRST dependent on THE SURGEON YOU CHOOSE. I highly recommend that you contact Dr. Baranov at (518)693-4699, and see for yourself that this standard of excellence really exists and that you too can successfully lose weight long-term and greatly improve your health and well-being doing so!

From an early age I struggled with Obesity and I had thought for the longest time that was just the life I was going to live. I also struggled with everyday pain and depression due to this condition. I didn't think anything was going to change until we came across the possibility of Bariatric Surgery. At the recommendation of my Primary Care Provider we signed up for a Seminar with Dr Baranov. It was very informative and good to see that the surgeon himself was teaching the seminar. My wife started on the program first and I noticed how well his office and staff treated her pre-op and post-op that I decided to join the program officially myself. I'm glad I made the choice to have Dr. Baranov and his staff assist me in my journey.

Dr. Baronov was referred to me by my physician as the most highly qualified bariatric specialist in the area. His program is the most encompassing of anything I could have imagined. I knew once I attended the informational seminar and met Dr. Baronov himself that his practice was organized, professional and effective. After my initial information seminar I scheduled an appointment with him for a consultation. It was two hours long which first gave his excellent staff time to fully evaluate me and then all the time in the world that I needed to sit with Dr. Baronov . We discussed with pictures, the procedure options and how they would affect my life. We then discussed best practices for pre and post success and I was made to understand the commitment required to gain the improved health that I was seeking. Dr. Baronov is not only the finest specialist I have ever encountered, but he is a genuinely kind man with a professional "no nonsense attitude" who also possesses a delightfully dry sense of humor. As a patient I feel respected and feel as I have every opportunity to discuss any questions or concerns with him.

Although the pre op criteria may seem daunting, I was pleased that Dr. Baronov was so determined not to let anything go. Without his experience and determination to know everything I would never have known about some potentially serious issues which were brought to light and addressed prior to surgery. I am currently one week out from my surgery and felt exceptionally well right from recovery. With Dr. Baronov's help and my commitment to following his very specific instructions I expect wonderful results. I have made a decision not to weigh myself until I see him at one month post op as I dont want my success to be number driven. I know that if I follow his proven plan my results can only be positive. Next steps are to fully take advantage of his support groups to gain more knowledge of life post op. This surgery will change my life and I can only say thank you to my primary for directing me to the best qualified specialist to make that change possible.

I just had the gastric sleeve surgery with Dr Baranov and can't give you results just yet because it has only been a week. I wanted to tell you all how amazing this staff is and the care Dr. Baranov puts into each patient. I was very wary of doing elective surgery and went to one of his seminars to see what I thought. He is very thorough and clinical in his speech and doesn't mince words. I liked that. This is what you have to do....if you don't do it you won't be successful. PERFECT. Follow the rules and you will do fine. My journey still continues as I really have just started. I think the entire process of meeting a YMCA coach to a psychiatrist to a wonderful convo with a nutritionist was all extremely worthwhile. I am learning about myself and about how food doesn't have to control me. Dr. Baranov personally called me on a Sunday night to see how I was doing. What Dr. does that nowadays? His staff, the hospital and his dedication to his practice/patients makes it a no brainer of who to choose. You can do this, I did. Follow the rules and you will smile again.

At age 7 I remember weighing 140lbs. I've done everything I could to loose weight with virtually no results. At my physical last year I talked with my primary Dr. about my fears. I was 33 and weighed 271 lbs. I have fibromyalgia, high bloodpressure, high cholesterol, restless legs, asthma and a BMI over 40. My father had a heart attack & 4 way bypass at age 45, has diabeties, severe arthritis, & high blood pressure. My mother is severely morbidly obese (5' 1" & weighs 280lbs). She has severe COPD, high blood pressure, severe osteoarthritis, & sleep apnea. All three of my aunts (her sisters) died from heartattacks before age 65.
I was scared for my future. How much more pain would my body go thru and how much time did I have left with my kids before my weight would eventually kill me? My Dr. said, "I had to do something drastic now, at a young age, to not have my parents medical problems. Dr. Baranov in saratoga is a highly recommended bariatric surgeon & has an outstanding success rate." He advised me to attend a seminar & the support groups to see my options.
So I attended a support group hosted by his staff and I was blown away. The struggle was real & I was not alone. Others there were at all stages of thier journies. That support group solidified my decision. I had to meet this Dr, I had to see if he could help me change my life.
After meeting him & seeing the professionalism and dedication he has to helping his patients, I knew, if I had bariatric surgery, I wanted him to be my Dr.! He conducted the informational seminar himself, talking with everyone personally and answering everyone's questions. Durring my apt he was very clear, and asked me tons of questions. In a very short amount of time, he had my health history, my present situation and my genetic future in hand. He agreed with my primary Dr. & would do my surgery! All of his staff were welcoming, informative and supportive. I started a strict bariatric pre op diet and my 6 month insurance approval process. I attended every monthly support group and was loosing weight that I never could before! On my day of surgery, I was about 30LBS down from my highest weight! Today, I am one week post op. My surgery went very well. I woke with very little pain. Gas pain and nausea from the anesthesia was the worst of it. I was given IV medications and fluids to help and allowed to rest. That night, I was up walking the halls, sipping water and taking care of myself. I was able to shower, groom and dress. My room was private, immaculate, and modern. Nurses were very attentive to my needs and care. Tylonol was all I needed for pain & I went home the next day! My incisions look great, I feel great. I cannot wait to weigh in at my post op apt and see how much more weight I have lost! I am very happy and optimistic with my new future. Dr. Baranov has not only helped change my life he has changed my whole families lives and our futures!
