Farouck Obeid Bariatric Surgeon M.D.

Dr. Obeid is wonderful. My first impression was that he has a nice sense of humor and is very friendly. He's comfortable with who he is and what he's doing, and he makes it clear that he relies on God in his personal and professional life. He doesn't preach, he just states the facts.

Dr. Obeid expects a lot of his staff and they are very good. My husband and I were very impressed with everyone after spending the whole day at the Hurley Center for Comprehensive Weight Loss up in Flint.

Future patients should know that he does not tolerate smoking. He made sure I understood by telling me that he wouldn't do surgery on me if he couldn't trust me to not smoke. I assured him that I had quit and that I would not start up again, several times!

In going over each step of surgery, Dr. Obeid spent a good portion of time on the risks and challenges of surgery. He carefully went over his own statistics and what he does to maintain his excellent record.

I haven't had my surgery yet, so I'll finish this up afterwards, and we'll see if we can find anything negative or not our favorite part about having Dr. Obeid as my surgeon.

My first impression of Dr. Obeid was very comforting. He was kind and straight to the point. He has a wonderful bedside manner. Over time my impression has stayed the same. His concern and support for me have helped tremendously. Dr. Obeid's office staff are very helpful and kind. They say they love to work for and with him. So far there isn't anything I don't like about him. I would like to let future patients know that Dr. Obeid is a good hearted man. Not only does he care about his patients but he is very skilled and he is also the Chief Trauma Surgeon at Hurley Hospital. He has a wonderful sense of humor too. After care to him is not only the most important part of this process, but he stresses that if you don't follow up like you are supposed to you could harm yourself to the point you can die. He wants to know that you are 100% sure this is the right surgery for you and that you can comply with the aftercare rules. After surgery we are sent to a Hurley Bariatric Center for our post op appointments. We can see him, a nutritionist, and a nurse who are all very helpful. Dr. Obeid made sure that I knew just how important aftercare was. I rate Dr. Obeid a 9 out of a possible 10. His whole attitude is just what the doctor ordered.

Hurley Comprehensive Weight Loss Centers staff includes not only the finest surgeon I have meet but other great people including the registered dieticians, physcian assistants, nurses, surgical team, support facilitators, billing and office staff. Without them my experience would never have been as seamless as it was. I have researched the surgery for years instate and out and this program I feel is the best thought out, full service in before and after care. They saved my life. I was informed on the risks as well as the benefits. I thought I had been very through in learning about Gastric Bypass and its alternatives. I looked into other programs but until I went to Hurley I didnt realize that I had no ideas of what questions to ask and how different other programs were. I would highly recommend Dr Obeid and his staff and Hurley Comprehensive Weight Loss Center. A few words regarding Dr Obeid, himself, I have never met a surgeon who is more down to earth, a great communicator, and having a sense of humor. He totally put me at ease. He is a 10 on my scale. I cannot say anything bad about the program. The only bad experiences I had were acts of God. The power went out in the hospital during my surgery.(Everything was handled beautifully of course I didnt know until after recovery when it was still out) No matter how ready in my head I was I wasnt ready for the pain or anxiety but I got through it. Also I had negative reaction from other Doctors I had to deal with after surgery. I injured myself after surgery and had to go to the er and the er doctor did not approve of the procedure and basically thought I got what I deserved for having it done. He was very rude and implied that I should never had to have it in the first place. Narrow small minds is all I can say about that. But the er doesnt reflect on my experience with the center.

As soon as I met Dr.Obeid, I really liked him. He seemed like such a caring person. I've seen him twice and I really trust him.The office staff was just great and took their time answering your questions.There was nothing I didn't like about him. I did li
ke the fact that he prays before surgery.Haven't had my surgery yet, so thats all the info I have for now.

I had my surgery May 24th, 2004. As of today I havelost 83lbs. I am very happy with Dr. O'Beid and his staff they were just as great as the first day that I meet them and still as caring as they were.

I would recomend Dr. OBeid or anyone of the wls Dr. there at Hurley Hospital. They are great Dr.'s and Hurley Hospital was also very impressing.

Dr. Obeid was very honest and patient when it came to questions that individuals had.
The office staff are very informative and supportive too!!

This is a great surgeon. He was very warm and I still feel the same. The staff was very caring, friendly and helpful.

MY FIRST IMPRESSION OF DR OBEID WAS THAT HE IMPRESSED ME VERY MUCH WITH HIS KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS. HIS OFFICE STAFF WERE ALL GREAT AND OH SO FRIENDLY. DR OBEID HAS A FINE SENSE OF HUMOR WHICH I LIKED AND HIS BEDSIDE MANNER TURNED OUT GREAT. THE AFTERCARE SO FAR HAS BEEN GREAT. I MEET WITH THE NUTRITIONIST EACH TIME WHICH IS VERY HELPFUL TO ME.
DR OBEID IS VERY STRAIGHT FORWARD ABOUT THE RISKS OF THIS SURGERY BUT ALSO ABOUT THE SUCCESSES OF THIS SURGERY.
I AM SO HAPPY THAT I CHOSE TO GO THROUGH HURLEY AND TO HAVE DR OBEID AS MY SURGEON. I WAS VERY MUCH AT PEACE TRUSTING MYSELF TO HIS SKILLED HANDS.

Dr. Obeid was very professional and knowledgeable, but also down to earth enough to make you feel comfortable. He sat down and talked to my family right after the surgery without acting rushed and put them at ease. During the hospital stay, the days that he couldn't come to check on me in person, he would call and talk to me on the phone. I would definitely recommend him to anyone considering having this done. Actually my mother and possibly my sister will also have him perform their surgeries.

Aftercare followup important.
Risks were gone over. However risk of bleeding out when drainage tube was removed, was not covered. I went into shock and had 3 units of blood given just before I was to be discharged.
